you state that you have to hit 5bps before the ramping to 15bps is activated, how exactly are you going to enforce this? isnt it gonna be the same as the hidden modes we have at present, or is the 5bps just a guide?

cos i would expect a lot of people will have 2bps as the activation

The mode we are using is the same as the PSP version.
We ourselves wanted a slightly different one but we agreed it is better to have the same thing as others.
So we chose the PSP version.
and if once you have ramp active it is very easy to detect if they have changed the mode.
If ramp is active and you stop shooting if you start to fire again within one second you will go straight to ramp mode.
So if you started to shoot (after ramp enabled) at two balls a second you would shoot at a rate of six balls a second because the gun must fire three shoots for every pull unless it has been left for a full second.
The PSP used this rule at there last event and we have talked to people who watched the games and they have reported back that it works great.
I talked to Rosie the PSP Ultimate and he claims it was one of the most level playing fields he had seen for an age.

I think people would be wise if they did not express opinions on the rule untill they have had the chance to try it.

Are you confident that you will be able to enforce the correct ramping speeds? Do you have the equipment? You have judges who are very inexperienced, they know what to look for etc...?

Paintballs over time have became heavier. Because of this they are getting close to the maximum impact lbs before a marker would have to be reclassified.
Doubt it. Paintballs are anywhere from 3 to 3.2g. The ASTM standard is 3.4 (or 3.5). Even with a 3.5g paintball at 300fps you come in under the 12ft/lbs energy limit.

With a 280 limit people will need to set their guns lower to be safe from being penalised. They will run in the mid 270's if lucky.

There is a big difference in range (and accuracy and chance of paintball breaking at greater distance) with the reduction in velocity.

IMHO if you want to run the same as th e PSP you should run the same velocity limit also.

Apparently the kit was tested at the 1st leg of the PA on one of the fields very successfully.
And not one person who was checked managed to hit 15bps. Which is gonna upset some people who regularly shoots 18, 19 and 20

Hardie, I think that's why they want it at 5BPS, that way it completely levels the playing field so anyone can unleash 15BPS within a few seconds.

Sure John,

Just get in touch with Steve Bull from the UKPSF.
It was the UKPSF who took our request to the Home Office and all letters go direct to him.
This rule is not a blanket rule across paintball in the UK.
Some people have convinced others that they can shoot quicker anyhow and it will be up to the individual organisers to decide what mode to allow.

Russ
Thanks, I will get in touch with Steve.

I realise that ramping will not be adopted everywhere.

Have the home office themselves not released any information regarding this change?

When the home office change the law they usually make a press release clarifying the changes and advising businesses and individuals on the implications of the rule.

Minutes from meetings are also published, but I cant find anything by the home office on the subject...

Thanks
John

That kind of sucks when you've got somone who has spent hours practising how to shoot properly... I have tried a gun with this software programmed in it today, to be honest I can't see this as a positive step forward!
