Our AIR SYSTEM ARE ILLEGAL

it's a complicated document, and it's interpretation could be lead in many ways.
For the size tanks we use it only needs to be an internal quality check at the manufacturer from the sounds of it. As it only needs to conform to Module A1 if it holds less than 1000bar.

There is also an exemption for some uses, Air Breathing being included, it wouldnt surprise me if this also covers the size/type of tanks we use but will need to be checked.

Edit: it also makes reference to only applying on cylinders used to transport 'type 2' gasses

edit again.

Basically, the directive quoted says that the exemptions in 94/55/EC and 94/49/EC apply.

One of these exemptions is:

1.1.3.1. Exemptions related to the nature of the transport operation
The provisions laid down in this Directive do not apply to:
(a) the carriage of dangerous goods by private individuals where the goods in question are packaged for retail sale and are intended for their personal or domestic use or for leisure or sporting activities;

Therefore I would summise that our air systems are exempt.

The legislation is aimed at transporting dangerous gases, not the use of cylinders.

The problem is that different organisations interpret these regulations differently, so HPAC/UKPSF may make different decisions to each other.

Happens all the time at work, I work for Norwich Union and part of my job is interpreting HMRC legislation and there are often times when we do not agree with other Pension providers when they look at the legislation.

OK i have looked at this and module A1 is an additional requirement after having met the requirements of module A,it specifies visits to the manufacturer to ensure quality or final assessment procedures are being complied with.
there is no mention of 1000bar in module A1,Exemption 94/49/EC relate to the transit of natural gas through grids.
The quoted 1.1.3.1 relates to the transportation of dangerous goods not pressure equipment, the next section i.e 1.1.3.2 relates to the exemption related to the carriage of gases and that does not exclude compressed air cylinders.
Air breathing tanks are under their own category which is under the Pressure Equipment Directive and must classified at least category 3

I'm going to print it out and have a proper read through rather than skim through on adobe :)

Well, if this is all true, how many of us are buggered?

Does anyone's reg have the Pi logo on?

I have a fairly new (about 1 year old) Crossfire reg and it doesn't, so where does that leave us?

For the record I think there is only 1 at present commercially available Pi reg.
