upset
Hi one and all.
Firstly can I apologise for not answering on this thread previously as I was unaware a comment by any of my team members had been made and secondly I didn't realize that the ill feeling from some of my team had sunk that low.
We all love and enjoy this game in what ever format we choose as our preferred sport and it is a sad fact of life that occasionally, when one discipline of the sport meets with another, there will be disagreement and confrontation about the manner in which the various games are played.
We are all also aware that playing the game, in what ever format, does raise one's adrenaline and tempers can become strained and stretched by what may seem like a trivial matter on reflection, but at the time can be somewhat of a serious flash point.
Turning to the incident on the day in question, I think it is fair to say that words were exchanged between a couple of the field marshal's about the team numbers. I think it also fair to point out that whilst OTE MERCS did want to play as a team, they were placed in a position of having about 25 on 8. This was raised by team members and comments, that I don't want to dwell on, were exchanged. This lead to the team walking off the field.
This was not a reflection against any of the other teams there, who I believe if it had been discussed with would have been more than happy to mix the teams up to level the numbers.
By the time this was raised with the management I think it fair to say the team had resigned themselves to leaving. I for one was already packing up as I had to fetch my wife from work in any event.
In hindsight, which is always a brilliant tool to have beforehand (but then it wouldn't be called hindsight) the team as a whole should have stayed and discussed the issue with the management and the marshal's. I am sorry that did not happen.
As team captain I am responsible for the behaviour of my team as a whole or as individuals. Likewise I have a duty to my team to express on there behalf any issues or concerns they have. Now that I am fully aware of the issues and concerns I have spoken at length to my team about protocol for the future so that such mistakes will not be repeated. As a new team we are keen to get on and enjoy our sport and meet many other teams across the country. Bad blood and bad feelings are not the sort of reputation we want following us around.
I will be speaking to the management of Asylum in the next few days and the team later this week. Hopefully we will be returning to Asylum in the future and will put this matter firmly behind us and move on.
I for one certainly look forward to returning to the venue once my political duties are over in the local elections, perhaps with a marker more suited next time - or maybe just a pisstol, and enjoying a game with some good guys who enjoy the game as much as me.
