Dan Perez was the on-field ref in the Joy-Dynasty game. Dave Zinkham has been the NPPL Ultimate since last year, including the OC event.

No game that has been played should be replayed, ever. Period.

Anyone who believes otherwise is not qualified to be an official.

Maybe there was sideline coaching, maybe there wasn't. Maybe the scoresheet was signed, maybe it wasn't. Maybe a player on the team had inappropriate behavior towards the officials, maybe he didn't.

None of it matters. That kind of bull**** happens all the time in paintball tournaments. None of it changed the fact that the game was replayed, and that should NEVER happen.

There is no "NPPL's side of the story" or "Team B's" side of the story, because no story exists that could make replaying a game OK.

Personally I think that NURV are right to feel hard done by, i think that was a terrible decision.
I do feel that the other team should have made a complaint about there player being pulled, but having a replay?? thats a bit too far....

You dont see cricket matches being replayed cuz the Ump gave a bad LBW do you....

As for the team being banned, that is Insane, What is this world coming to.... But hey i wasnt there maybe there is another side to this story that we all dont know about....(doubt it).
Lets hope that everyone can learn from this and make sure it never happens again.

Ok, whilst not ordinarily one to stir the pot:rolleyes::eek:, those of you that spend time on PBN:eek: might have heard about this;

"Well guys, we did our best at the Tampa NPPL tournament, but apparently winning is not enough to get you into the next rounds. Here is the situation, Nurv vs. Naughty by Nature in a best 2 out of 3 series, winner advances. First game, Naughty by Nature wins. Next game, Nurv wins, tied at 1 and 1. Next game, Nurv wins, signs score card, series over. However, Naughty by Nature argues the fact that one of their players got pulled and wasn't actually hit. Well, that's too bad, bad calls happen all the time in the NPPL, as a matter of fact in that exact same game I got pulled when I wasn't hit and anyone that knows me knows I DO NOT argue calls or make excuses. So, they get the ultimate ref over, and he finally decides that because someone from the sidelines told a ref to pull a player that was pulled and wasn't hit that it qualifies as an "extreme circumstance" and the game should be replayed. We argued that's it's not our fault the ref made a bad call and irregardless we still would've won. We are all like, WTF!?!? This has never happened, even Ollie Lang himself couldn't get a game to be replayed if his team lost. The ultimate then tells us to gear up because we're playing again and we have 4 minutes or else we are disqualified. We were all about figuring out what team we're playing next and they tell us this so we have to rush and get paint and do all that. Then we play and we end up losing (most everyone was extremely mind F'ed) after the whole ordeal). So, then Naughty by Nature advances.

Bottomline: This is a extremely political sport and if you have money and are tight with the right people then the floodgates of heaven will be opened for you and even the most obscene favor will be granted to you. The one who made it all happen for Naughty by Nature was one of the kid's dads who apparently owns SC village and probably dumps a lot of money into the NPPL.

This sets a terrible precedent for the NPPL because they are basically saying that any call that wasn't right gives you the right to replay an entire game. Even had that player not gotten pulled we still won w/ 2 bodies live and had all the spots, he would've gotten mowed anyways so the whole thing is just ridiculous. I nor the Naughty Dogs have ever heard of a game replayed and the dogs have been around practically since the inception of paintball.

I doubt we will be showing up to any more NPPL tournaments, but who knows. What a waste of money to go win only to find out that you weren't supposed to win so the NPPL has got to fix the game until the "right" team wins. Absolutely ridiculous."

And the NPPL's response?

From the NPPL To NURV:
It is unfortunate that we had an incident with Nurv during the Tampa event. As you are both are aware the sport of paintball is somewhat subjective. Rules always need to be interpreted and enforced. I, as President of the league, have separated myself from any on field decisions in an effort to be as unbiased as possible. I employ an Ultimate Ref and he is the final say on all calls and rule interpretations. Dave Zinkham has been the NPPL Ultimate and/or rules Scrutineer for the past 5 years. He is absolutely the best man for the job and I support his decisions 100%.

Whenever Dave has to become involved in a decision there is always one team that is unhappy. That is the nature of his position. It is understandable that your team would have been upset when a call didn’t go as you would have hoped and a certain amount of latitude is tolerated. But, the way your team, and specifically Fernando, treated my staff was absolutely unacceptable. I will not tolerate the abusive nature in which Fernando carried himself. It is a bad representation of our sport and something I will not and can not allow in the NPPL.

It has also been brought to my attention that Fernando has tried to “stir the pot” on the internet and is posting things that are harmful to the league and my staff.

Because of Fernando’s actions during the event, our need to have Police escort him off premise, and his views online that make it clear he does not want any part of the NPPL, I have decided that Nurv and every player on the roster from Tampa will not be allowed to attend NPPL Event #3 in Boston and be suspended from the NPPL indefinitely. This suspension can be appealed after Boston assuming the appeal includes a written apology to the NPPL and a signed behavior contract.

If you choose not to appeal, I wish your team success in whatever future paintball endeavors you may encounter.

Any thoughts? And what the hell is a 'behaviour contract'? A signed contract that says 'We won't squeal if we get butt****ed'?

There's lots more in the thread, here;

He has added more to his post...I feel they got screwed!!! that's why I have stopped playing NPPL's

Heres the rest of the post...

The main problem here is this.

#1. A ref supposedly pulled a player that was not hit, which is speculative because he may have been hit. Refs usually don't pull people for no reason whatsoever.

#2. Whether or not it was a bad call it was unlikely to change the outcome of that game. We still won with 2 bodies live, had all the spots on the field, etc.

#3. One thing every paintball player knows is that a call made on the field always stands no matter how much arguing is done unless it was clearly obvious that a ref was in direct violation of a rule, which was NOT the case here.

#4. The NPPL rule states that an ultimate ref may overturn a call under extreme circumstances. While this is a grey area is still does not justify what happened.

#5. The idea to replay the game was neither that of any of the NPPL refs or the ultimate refs idea, but it WAS that of Giovanni (NXN's coach).

#6. The ultimate then took it upon himself to force this issue upon us and say that we must replay the game or forfeit. THIS IS WHERE HE GETS WAY OUT OF BOUNDS IN REGARDS TO THE NPPL RULES. The NPPL rules do not state anything about replaying a game. If he deemed this situation an "extreme circumstance" then the call may have been overturned which would have given NXN another body live on the scoresheet and Nurv would still have subsequently advanced. What he did, however, I consider to be in gross negligence of the NPPL rules and to be a severe misuse of power. He did what was not in his power to do, this is NOT A MISINTERPRETATION OF A RULE, it is one man, influenced by Giovanni, on a power trip to ruin a team's chances of advancing. I cannot speak to the ties between the ultimate ref and Giovanni, but if you look at the facts, the NPPL rules, and the ultimate ref's decision, you can come to your own conclusion.

#7. We were given an ultimatum by the ultimate judge: PLAY OR GO HOME, PERIOD! While we were outraged and tried everything to do to persuade him that this was way out of line, his mind was made up. So, being as it may we suited up and played. No one's head was in the right spot after this slap in the face, we did not have time to adjust our game plan, we barely were given enough time to get paint and air and step onto the field and thus we lost.

So, all in all, don't be mad at the NPPL refs, they have a job to do, mistakes are made all the time and I completely understand that. We have had many go against us, and some for us, it usually evens out. If you want someone to blame, the Ultimate ref is the one at greatest fault here. I harbor no hard feelings towards the NXN players, but if I was them I'd be ashamed to advance given the illegitimacy of their win.
