Problem with the word is that it means nothing. Well, the last bit does, zak = bag, but doedel has no meaning at all.
Ya learn something every day, dontchya?
Somewhere in medival Holland:
Dutchman Klaas: Oi, you scottish man over there! That is an interesting musical instrument you have there. What would you call a fine instrument such as that?
Scotsman Angus: Arg, laddy, that's what we be calling BAG-PIPES!
Dutchman Klaas: Oh, verdulleme! How would I translate a word like that?
Scotsman Angus: How should I be knowing that, you daft Haggis!
Dutchman Klaas: Thank you for your kind words. I know! Since the sound those bag-pipes make sounds kind of doedel-ish, and it is shaped like a bag, I'll call it doedelzak!
