all that can be done is to get some news teams down to the cc this year, and put it on standard tv, at peak time, and unless you have a lot of money, that won't happen. i wish that paintball was accepted, but it's until fields start plaing sup air with punters, and a tv channel carries paintball that it will be - i mean with all these sports channels, someone's got to want to carry paintball - there are 10.5million people that have or are playing paintball, that's a fair old ammount

At the level of the olympics all the gear is going to be given to the players though sponsorships. But at most of are levels paintball if an expensive sport that only few dare to pay out all there money into this game. Its to expensive for the average punter to get into. If the prices of any decent equiment is drop paintball has a little chance of devolping. Yes many people do pay the money but for many people thinking right i like paintball lets get into it more first thing they see after going on planet or gizmos etc is o my god i cant pay out £750+ on a gun thats stupid. If youo can afford to play paintball its the bst game in the world with a big price tag. Just think about it football most popular sport in the world is cheap not saying thats the only reason why people play it its just a factor.

Most paintball days out are played in the woods so not many people even get the experience to play sup'air pitty them :p mainly because most sites dont have sup'air not many sites even have air so people with all the DMs and egos in the world will never go and play there bcz they will never get a refill on there bottle so all the punters cant see how much better it is to have a non site gun that you can customize and use it your own way etc...

until paintball becomes more open to everyone to play by being given the oppertuinty to play sup'air and use the better guns etc paintball is never going to have a major backing for many years to come. However paintball is going to be in the olympics one day just when is the question. Paintball needs to able to walk before it can run.

Hope this helps and if it doesnt make any sense sorry

Tim ;)

Almost certainly never, ever going to happen. Not mainstream enough and too dependent on kit.
If it were to happen, would probably require standardised equipment, so the powers that be would have to chose a single marker, etc that all players would have to use, in the name of fairness. So the various manufacturers would have to fight it out to convince the olympic commitie(sp?) that their marker/kit should be the "official" ones.
Still, no harm signing up. :)

quick query - what would you all expect to come out of paintball being an olympic sport? Do you all actually think it would make any sort of difference to UK ball?

Genuinely interested in your opinions.

Maybe, maybe not. They say all publicity is good publicity, and IF somehow paintball made it to the olympics then it would appear on primetime tv all over the world.
Though short term probably not really, though may raise awareness of paintball as a sport. Maybe see more people thinking of it as a sport as opposed to a group of guys running round in camo thinking they're rambo.

It doesn't matter whether paintball is "pc" or not - not in the least.

Boxing is not exactly "pc" either, and have been there for over a century :)

Golf on the other hand is extremely "pc" - but is finding it hard to get into the olympics.

The criteria for getting into the olympics are not straightforward - and are extremely politicised - and as such, paintball COULD be part of the olympics - if the groundwork was laid out over the next 5-6 years.

The olympic organisation is currently going through a rejuvination process, and in a not too distant future, we will see more sports that a big with "kids" make it into the olympics.

But all that is really besides the point - because.....

....what DOES matter - and which is also the reason the rumour about paintball being "considered" is false, is that there is no organisation the Olympic committee could deal with, if they were even remotely interested.

Say paintball met all other requirements than organisation, to get into the olympics.....

- Who would the Olympic committee contact to start negotiations?
- What format would that non-existent organisation present at the format for paintball competition?
- Who would set criteria (benchmark) for participation?
- Who would deal with olympic committees on a national level?
- Who would select the national teams to take part?
- and so on

It's a pipe dream.... it's a nice one - but forget about it.

As long as paintball players and industry is completely opposed to getting organised as a real sport, there is not a snowballs chance in hell of paintball getting on the olympic programme.

I'm impressed, the author of this one managed to spell all of the words correctly

Paintball won't ever get into the olympics until it actually becomes a sport. At this point, it isn't. There is no universal set of rules regarding the size of the playing field, the scoring of points, the game format, the number of participants, the equipment used... how exactly can a completely non-standardised game whose rules differ among no fewer than 5 different "professional" leagues be considered for an standardised international competition? Pipe dream. Right now, this game is a poor qualifier even for the X-games. If and when one dominant format and rules book emerge from the current bitchfest catfight among league owners (which judging by Smart Parts' newest infomercial league seems even less likely than it did before), including standard field size, team size, game type, point scoring system and allowable firing mode then this game really has no business in a professional international competition.
