I believe this is a seperate thing - Sergei has some (all?) of his players on contract. As was said elsewhere, if you're going to put time and money into individuals then you want to protect your investment.
I understand that but how does that in any way shape or form bind the other teams in the league? And just how is Sergei going to enforce that contract over here? It might be possible but would it really be worth it?

On the other hand the league does have enforceable transfer and compensation rules and if players were rostered when RL joined I expect they can make that stick. Also, I don't know what status EXL players had with regards NXL but whether or not EXL exists now doesn't necessarily mean it alters internal standing.

I'm guessing it doesn't, it binds the player direct and would leave him in breach of contract and open to subsequent action due to that. I.E. I, joe Schmoe, agree that by signing this contract I am contracted to Boston Red Legion for 3 years and may not play for any other team in the NXL, NPPL, or Millennium Series from 2005-2008.

In breach of a Russian contract you want to enforce in America against two kids who just want to play paintball? Still doesn't explain why Trauma wasn't playing their Foreign Legion boyz, IMHO.

If you can believe many TV-detective series there seems to be a lot of "Russian contracts" that are "enforced" in America. There seems to be a few in this part of the world also.

1. Yes, why not?

2. Maybe it was the players decision, not Trauma's? Or was the call made by Trauma?

He has the funds to enforce the contract, and Im sure he would...otherwise you send a message that RL are willing to train people up to an elite standard and then they can go play for the competition....i.e. get used like some kinda free training camp...It dosn't happen in other pro sports unless the player is exchanged for money....not like rl need it...

I think that Trauma did not want to antagonise a fellow franchise owner by playing 2 players who were still under contract elsewhere regardless of the fact that that contract would not be valid under US law. I am not sure it has anything to do with the Legion trying to enforce a Russian contract, merely that Trauma are recognising that contract in a way that US law would not.

I hope it gets resolved.

i really feel for Dan, because he really wanted to play on an American Pro team.

But you have to understand Sergi's Point of view too, that he wants to hold onto his assets (players) and protect the investment in training.

I guess as the NXL and Professinal Paintball as a whole starts to grow in size and potential profitability that we will start to see some of the 'political bullsh!t' between franchises.

For all the people who want to grow the sport, make it mainstream, and put it in the spotlight, they have to accpet that with all this extra money comes a lot more BS.

I guess this is a good indicator that Tournament League Professional Paintball is on the verge of becomming a business, instead of a sport.
