A perfectly behaving player will not retaliate when shot, overshot, verbally abused and/or threatened (by a pointed marker or otherwise) but will rely on the officials to sort it out and apply the proper penalties. Unfortunately that goes contrary to human nature and especially the pumped up PB player.

Because such reaction is almost the norm and because it mostly is understood and goes unpunished we will continue to have moments of chaos like this.

Better reffing and rules obviously reduce the frequency of such occurances.

BTW, here are the rules for overshooting:

21.04 Six-Game Suspension. Players will be ejected and the team will play short for six games for the following:
(1) Outbursts. Throwing marker or air system.
(2) Physical contact during or after play that results in injury (e.g., punch, kick, or spit).
(3) Over Shooting. Over shooting any other player with intent to injure.
(4) Shooting Referees.
(5) Shooting from Dead Box.

Those are pretty harsh penalties IMO.

Yup, it all stands and falls with enforcement of the rules. Otherwise it would be a big free for all everytime I play American football, because believe me, you get a lot more pumped up playing that, than with paintball. Yet we are all perfectly behaved most of the time. Why? Because we have refs that don't hesitate to throw your ass off the field...

Funny how a lack of quality or guts in the reffing has always been the problem with paintball. Ain't a damn thing changed but the weather...

why get penalised for throwing marker ?!

thats about as harmless as throwing a 1000 pound pod

Markers have air cylinders attached to them, which are not things you should be throwing around.

You can't allow overshooting just because the person being shot is 'playing on'.

A smart player shouldn't even do it - your gun is pointing at the wrong person, and if the ref doesn't know he's shot yet, you're making it appear that he was shot later in the game than he actually was, making it more likely that your players get incorrectly eliminated.

Of course, many paintball players are not smart. You also don't want players deciding when someone is playing on or not. You don't want players thinking it is OK to add to the chaos. You overshoot the one player, what's he going to do? Turn around and shoot you, of course.

From a safety standpoint, what if the player still on the field is injured?

Now, I'm not saying that if a guy is still on the field that you should get a penalty for shooting him. That's not the same as OVERSHOOTING him though, especially maliciously overshooting him as was the alleged case here.

What exactly is a 'warning for shooting after your armband has been removed' and an 'official warning for physical contact?' I've never heard of getting a warning or official warning for anything. Is there some kind of 3 strikes and you're suspended rule regarding warnings? I'm confused.

I could see if a ref warned a player on the field (which is more of a judgement call by the ref) but what does it mean when THE NPPL gives you a warning?

theres a huge difference between throwing an air marker - and throwing an air marker with your tank screwed into it...

throwing a tank or anything attached to a tank is endangering the lives of potentionally a LOT of people...

throwing the marker along isnt really

What a joke! Fraige should be banned for 6 games and Cole for 3-6 depending on your interpretation of the rule book!

'Shame'...an abstract concept for any self-respecting pro these days.
Our pro scene is littered with amoral miscreants seemingly hellbent on achieving a win at any cost and the only way we can influence the stranglehold this type mindset has on our sport is when the industry starts to feel the pinch.
In other words, when the public shaming of individuals and teams begins to adversely influence sales...I'm afraid the cliché, 'Money talks' is profoundly relevant in this instance.
No way is any moral indignation gonna be the main dynamic of change, Alex has already exampled that better than I could ever do in that interview he did.
It had all the elements there, self deception, delusions, lies, animosity and lord knows what else .... and this from the offending party !!!
Bejeeezus, what has our sport descended to when we have manifest behaviour such as this public outcry from one of our top stars being so profoundly sickening in its entirety, Alex should be ashamed, but he won't be, we have allowed the cultivation of his (and the rest of Dynasty's) mindset, all of us are just as much to blame because we have done little to prevent it all.
