Since Missy is spoiling for a scrap
First (NPPL) U.S. Paintball Championship: where'd that name come from? What happened to Super 7 and how come, with an international make-up it's suddenly the U.S. championships? (Yeah, I know.)
Opening credits--weakest part of the show and struck me as kind'a amateurish. Fortunately it didn't last long, unfortunately I'm guessing we'll see it on each show.
Show content--pretty good. Some creative ideas at play to help explain the action. Good variety of shots. Thought it might have been more nuts and bolts of paintball informative but that's a judgment call; info overload or not enough? Either way, again, pretty good.
Seemed like some of the creative graphics and voice over commentary was covering up the fact the visual narrative was thin. Most of the shots were action type bits and pieces that most serious ballers are familiar with from most of the pball DVDs that caught a lot of the highlights but didn't really tell the "story" of the games. Even so the overall effect I thought was solid and a pretty effective presentation. Unlikely to be the breakout hit that shoots paintball to the stratosphere but a version of paintball on TV players don't need to make excuses for. A step forward.
A kind of improved longer version of the FSN NPPL shows in a lot of respects which isn't a bad thing.
I'd give it a B- but I'm a very tough grader. (I do wonder what the future shows are gonna deliver when we start getting into the match-ups where the teams were playing body count as tonight's show was the first round of Saturday match-ups--I think; the final 8 teams playing best 2 out of 3.)
PS--my favorite part, after the action, was the flight of paintballs graphic showing a bunker being pinched by two players--except one of the graphic-added streams was coming from a player who was looking the other way with his gun down while the commentator is explaining pinching a player out. Very funny.
