Check youtube a few days after each airing. Someone will probably post it on there.

Seen the show. Superb, but the bushwackers will never live it down. 2 x gross cheating episodes in one best of 3 match-up - all caught on camera - you won't believe it!

How do I have no recollection of this at all? What the hell happened?

First (NPPL) U.S. Paintball Championship: where'd that name come from? What happened to Super 7 and how come, with an international make-up it's suddenly the U.S. championships? (Yeah, I know.)

Opening credits--weakest part of the show and struck me as kind'a amateurish. Fortunately it didn't last long, unfortunately I'm guessing we'll see it on each show.

Show content--pretty good. Some creative ideas at play to help explain the action. Good variety of shots. Thought it might have been more nuts and bolts of paintball informative but that's a judgment call; info overload or not enough? Either way, again, pretty good.
Seemed like some of the creative graphics and voice over commentary was covering up the fact the visual narrative was thin. Most of the shots were action type bits and pieces that most serious ballers are familiar with from most of the pball DVDs that caught a lot of the highlights but didn't really tell the "story" of the games. Even so the overall effect I thought was solid and a pretty effective presentation. Unlikely to be the breakout hit that shoots paintball to the stratosphere but a version of paintball on TV players don't need to make excuses for. A step forward.

A kind of improved longer version of the FSN NPPL shows in a lot of respects which isn't a bad thing.

I'd give it a B- but I'm a very tough grader. (I do wonder what the future shows are gonna deliver when we start getting into the match-ups where the teams were playing body count as tonight's show was the first round of Saturday match-ups--I think; the final 8 teams playing best 2 out of 3.)

PS--my favorite part, after the action, was the flight of paintballs graphic showing a bunker being pinched by two players--except one of the graphic-added streams was coming from a player who was looking the other way with his gun down while the commentator is explaining pinching a player out. Very funny.

The production of the NPPL show was outstanding. Amazing what the magic of television can do to 12 minutes of the most boring paintball ever. Kill counts on the top of the screen, pictures of eliminated players, overhead views of the field highlighting player location - all the obvious things that anyone with a clue about sports broadcasting would do have been done.

But, the format is still wrong. There's no tension. It's like watching your microwave timer count down - when it's done, you might have a nice pizza pocket, but you're not missing much if you leave and come back to check the finished product after the timer dings.

If only the NXL show had been produced this way...

Kinda makes you wish for unification a little, don't it?

When I was in HB, I got called to a meeting with Bart and the producer of that show which I covered in this month's Pig and I have to say, I was impressed with what I heard.
And for Baca to mark it down as a 'B' and knowing how discriminating our Baca is, it seems as though my optimism was not so misplaced.

Time and again we have dropped the ball when it came to putting our beloved sport on TV and we ended up squandering the chance either through unsophisticated production or insufficient investment.

In Paintball terms, I don't really give a flying fcuk which series makes it onto TV tho I'm pleased I got a team in the NPPL because I think ESPN will come back to the NPPL for seconds after what I was told by the producer.

We won't in the short term be able to air live Paintball because these productions rely so much on sophisticated editing which tends to suggest a league type production (like NFL or NBA) being a long way off and we are being corralled into event based productions with heavy editing.

I have always had a firm belief we could make it on TV which I have at times had to question when people I respect decried its chances on the basis they believed Paintball being intrinsically untelevisable.

I hope they were wrong; I believe they are but the proof is in the pudding and from what I am hearing, the pudding looks good, whether people wanna eat it is another question and one that will be answered shortly, good luck PP !

And let's not forget what's going down with the NXL as they have their deal coming up also with ESPN (confusingly so).
They HAVE to learn from their mistakes if they are to achieve any success in getting Paintball on TV and so maybe the success of this show could ironically provide the benchmark the NXL guys will try to overhaul.
