It's assault on a hockey rink too. It should be assault on a paintball field. I hadn't caught Ant's post yet when I made my first post, so having the information now on the extent of Pete's injuries (assuming it's true) the Rage guys are way, way more in the wrong than Pete. That's just inexcusable. I know someone is going to say "It's sports, tempers flare, ithappens in other pro leagues" but I can not honestly remember ANYTIME EVER that a professional team player had ribs broken in a fight on the field of play. Wonder how that one will play on Fox.

Nonetheless, for all the chest-thumping Pete does, how much of an "important person" he touts himself to be, what he did was fragrantly stupid. You have someone on the committee that is supposed to set the rules flagrantly disregarding the rules in a very visible manner. What kind of standard of behavior are you setting about how officials should be treated when you've got a rules committee member, who is apparently not even playing, entering the field of play after the game to argue with the officials?

And the penalty given - to everyone - is bull****. $500 fine and leave for the rest of the day? RIBS WERE BROKEN FOR CHRIST SAKE, and these guys are STILL PLAYING THE TOURNAMENT? What do you have to do to get ejected from a paintball tournament, run someone through with a sword?

I agree with most of the stuff you just said but was more concerned with your original comments than anything after..Obviously theres some bad blood from a previous ruling and maybe Pete did overreact but to call Pete out, even with your excuse of not reading Ants post is childish..That was my main point...Nothing else:)

Now to your other points...I totally agree its an embarrassment whatever the cause yet Pete also holds the "coach" title of Nexus so it puts him in akward position..Defend your team and point out a ****ty call(if thats what started it)and get caught up in the moment as we all have and also be on the rules committee..Maybe its "wearing too many hats" as we've heard so often..It definately is a strange position to be in if I had to make the decision on the penalty..I've always said that any kind of physical violence should be met with th stiffest penalties..You get a 1 year ban for throwing a game yet you can wallop someone and only get a six game suspension...Its a joke..And physical contact should be a 1 year ban..Enforce it a couple of times and you wouldnt see it ever again...

I'll make my judgement though when the stories given tommorow and im sure it will....(wheres TJ when you really need him??:p )What if Pete just grabbed the kid and got pummeled by Rage??Sure Petes at some fault but to get beaten down like all these sites are saying is atrocious and I personally think the other Rage players not involved in the original altercation should have been tossed from the whole event...Personally,if Petes in that bad of shape, charges should have been pressed...:(

No it doesn't. Either way, he's in the "Keep your ass off the field" position.

What if Pete just grabbed the kid and got pummeled by Rage?
Then he should be tossed from the rules committee and, were the right call made, Pete should be ejected from the tournament and Nexus should be playing short as if one of their players were suspended. Regardless of what happened after that, Pete's actions were out of line, and especially stupid considering his position. Proceeding to get his ass handed to him after being stupid doesn't excuse his behavior.

Nor does Pete's behavior in any way justify the actionsof the Rage players - banned for a year, minimum.

Anyway, point of the matter with Pete that was driving my original post is he's all talk and no delivery. He acts like he's a responsible, experienced person whose opinion and expertise should be respected, but he actually behaves like a thug. We all talk about the problems with the way paintball players behave and are allowed to behave. Pete just demonstrated that he *IS THE PROBLEM*. He wants the rules applied to everyone, but then acts like he doesn't think the rules apply to him.

We finally agree on something!!:p And im not agreeing or disagreeing with Petes actions yet..I cant really form an opinion until I hear more first...And do you put any fault on the refs for not stopping it before it happened??How does it get to that point??Not that the fight was their fault but the situation before it had to be out of control..Do the refs have any control of their fields??It just sounds like one big joke after another regarding refs...

I'll make my judgements(not that they matter much;) )tommorow when I hear the whole story though...

But on the bright side, barring the altercation yesterday,I think we need more of these rivalries in paintball as im sure these games with Nexus vs. Rage have been good ones:)

I'm betting they had little to no control...

Because of people doing things like what Pete does. There's no reasonable expectation of getting a penalty for anything, so people just keep running down the field when hit, and chaos ensues because the refs just can't keep up with the cheating, and then you have a coach coming onto the field from the sidelines before you can get stuff sorted out...

But even if they did have control, I'm not sure how much they could have done about it. It isn't Pete's job to figure out whether the guy hanging the flag is hit or not. If Pete's going to come out on the field because he doesn't like the call, he's going to do it regardless of whether the refs are "in control" when they make the call, and there ain't a whole lot they can do to stop Pete from grabbing another player.

no, don't shut up, keep on flapping that big yap:

little jerry sure is vocal these days, but that wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that this incident happened over in the 'other' league now, would it?

let the system work: it seems like penalties and fines have been handed out and I for one believe that NPPL will handle it professionally and responsibly - unlike some loud mouths who have no involvement, no connection and no business talking about it - except to take delight in someone else's troubles.

First thing first.....

Anyone who thinks I take any pleasure out of this situation whatsoever is an idiot. Stuff like this just pisses me off to no end. It pisses me off when people are allowed to give the refs and other players **** at PSP events, NPPL events, or wherever. It ESPECIALLY pisses me off when the person doing it should know better.

And shut my yap and wait for what? What new information do you guys honestly expect to see that's going to make this 'ok'? Pete managed to get a position on the NPPL rules committee where he should have the ability to institute POSITIVE change in the sport, and what does he do?

He goes on the field after a game he ain't playing and starts ****. And you're defending him why? Under what possible circumstances could this have been ok?

And Steve, don't be putting sentiment in my mouth. I could care less whether it's Pro League A or Pro League B. It doesn't make any difference whose field this happened to have happened on this time around. It's the same **** everywhere: Inadequate penalties, inadequate enforcement, inadequate tracking, complete unwillingness to tackle the easy, basic stuff that needs to be fixed if the sport is going to be taken seriously. You start a fight with another player, you get tossed from the event. You severely injure a player you're gone for a year+.

let the system work: it seems like penalties and fines have been handed out

Are you seriously suggesting that a $500 fine and "leave for the day" for breaking another player's nose/ribs is the system WORKING? Surely you jest.

Even worse, if we actually believe Pete was on the field in some official capacity and not as just a coach throwing a fit, are you suggesting that penalty is appropriate for breaking the nose/ribs of a LEAGUE OFFICIAL?

I can't believe anyone is even trying to justify any part of this situation, even if it's just one quarter as bad as it looks right now.
