And Skeet, I was referring in general to not only the quality, but the longevity of LCD over plasma. Just a generalisation really, I mean, why buy tapes when you can buy DVD's?

As I stated...modern Plasma have a life of around 60,000 hours, the same as an LCD.

The analogy of tapes and DVD's is not a good one...as..well...the differences between those two are..DVD's store more data and in better quality... longevity, is dependent on how you look after it.


LCD's, simply dont provide a better quality image over a Plasma.
They are lighter, easier to make, run cooler etc yes...of course...but they have difficulty with certain things, such as motion blur and blacks...the vividness of the image, I guess...is personal taste....Plasmas will provide a better image all round, but are prone to burn, are harder to make, heavier and run hotter.

I could have had what ever I wanted...had an LCD been the best choice for me, I would have one...but it wasnt...so Plasma, is the way I went...but I am not biased...I will get an LCD later on (smaller) for a PC monitor come gaming screen.

Ahh...Cables..yeah..well...it doent hav to be super fat...but...a sheilded cable, is better and generally tend to be thicker...I have an IXOS scart...only cost £40 but made a hell of a difference..all my SKY screens are much sharper than with my previous, slightly dog chewed scart.

I also have a Tacima mains conditioner/filter on all my AV gear...works well too.

when i was talking about graphics i was referring to television viewing, not gaming.

with the oldschool comment i ment playing a snes on a SD tele, enjoying the game for its gameplay, not how it looks.

TBH, gaming is all about preferance, i really dont like the oldschool games, i was playing PGR HD (project gotham racing High Defination) on the PS3 last night, which was mind blowing, it really does justice to the cars featured in it, which you wouldn't get a sense of in SD and on a PS1.

HD gaming is just the next step, and im not saying it will erradicate all oldschool consoles or game's, its just a advancement of technology

Skeet, I will get the details regarding Monster cables (my Mrs sells them at work, and won't stop banging on about them at home) and post them up if you want. But anyway, I still used whatever cheap scart I can. There's nothing on apart from Under siege on E4 anyway, and you would only need HD for one small part of that........
TBH, in my opinion TV doesn't need to have better resolution than real life.

BTW - longevity is what makes a game great - not fancy graphics. Why do you think Nintendo put the virtual console in the Wii?

And why do you think there is such a big 'retro' gaming scene?

As for people buying HD tv's. That's a simple one - they think normal analog televisions are going to be useless soon, as they are confused by HD and digital transmissions. Oh - and because they are the next 'must have' and 'show off to mates' gadgets.

Oh..THOSE, Monster Cables...well yes...they do a mains conditioner..not very good..bad idea to put LED's ona mains conditioner, as it creates noise..which is what your trying to get rid of.

Really...IXOS stuff, is very good...you dont have to spend a fourtune on them, but they are good.

And, HD isn't better than real life...it is as close to real life as can be done at home, at the moment...that is why all the Celeb's are moaning, because HD reveals flaws in their skin etc.

RAFFLES: Some people buy HDTV, because, like me...they do enjoy their Movie experiences...and HD is the best there is at the moment, so it is only natural to want it.

But..yes, Joe Public would buy it because its there and "in"
