I hear you Nicky, but unless you've got a Selfridges or Schuh shop on site there's no way my beloved will be enjoying anything!

Seriously though, I'm not just talking about the family/partner commitments that people have, it's just it is a damn site more difficult and expensive to do a two day event than it is a one day, especially if the site isn't local to you.

It was just a thought/suggestion for the next time one of these events is organised. I'm only speaking for myself but I'm sure there will be others who feel the same way...

Well, the only reason I'm not going is because it's a whole weekend. Now before everyone starts pissing and moaning at me, yes I know it will be worthwhile and I know that if you seriously want to improve you have to make commitments etc etc I am not arguing this point what so ever and if I was free and single it would be a no-brainer...

However, a two day event is a far greater investment in terms of both time and money and is perhaps also the reason why events like the Phoenix cup aren't booked out?? If you have a partner it's difficult enough escaping for one night, let alone two with a stop over

Perhaps, the next (if there is a 'next' - I hope so) Nexus training event could be done on consecutive Sundays? Or maybe a condensed version for one day?

Just a thought - flame away! :D

Hey Ben, this is the deal (no flaming), when a lot of stuff went up on these boards talking about how Nexus were concentrating on the US and some peeps, understandably, felt a bit put out because they would have had little opportunity to see, let alone play against them.
Other posts suggested that a number of players would have relished the opportunity to learn from others and felt aggrieved, to an extent, that they were missing out on something and kept asking me and the other team members, what we were doing, how we were doing it and so on.
Well, it didn't take too much to work that if Brit paintball was serious and really wanted to learn, then a training seminar seemed to be the answer.
All that remained was for me to ask the guys to give up ANOTHER one of their weekends to help out, they unsurprisingly said 'yes'.
The reason we picked it to run over the weekend was because we had no choice, if we were to do a serious job in getting the rest of Brit paintball up to speed, or at least pointed in the right direction, it would take a whole weekend to do that.

There was absolutely no point in running a one day affair, the amount of work we needed to get through just couldn't be covered in anything less and that's why it is a weekend long.

As for any repeat performances ?
I doubt it because of our schedule throughout the year, both training and playing, we just ain't got the time.
We are training every other weekend, some of the guys are also training midweek at their local sites and on top of that attending tournaments
Like you guys, we all got families and our weekends are stretched enough as it is, so this looks like it is gonna be a one off.

Anyway, the choice is yours guys, we are doing our bit and I really look forward to seeing everybody down there next weekend.
And a big, big, big thanks to Sparkie who has helped us from day one on this as well as Simon Cole who has done everything he can to make sure this goes off well for all those who attend.

Yes, don't get me wrong Robbo, I completely agree that it's the right thing to do and I'm glad it's happening.

However, in different threads people are asking 'why isn't the event full' etc or words to that effect. I was merely giving my opinion as to why that may be - not because people don't want to or don't appreciate what is being laid on (for me I'm sure it would be more insightful than a weekend with Yoda!), simply because for many people Paintball is a hobby, one they love and do as often as they can, but a hobby none the less.

Would you not concede that it will be a little easier for people to 'afford' the event if it is part of their livlihood?

But in essence, I agree with what your saying, it will effectively split those who are really SERIOUS about playing from those who really ENJOY playing - that make any sense?

Ben, there is a simple solution to such problems. Allow your spouse / girlfriend / ho / battyboy / significant other, to use your Amex for all her shopping activity. The average shopping trip to Jimmy Choo, Selfridges, Prada and Gucci should secure enough membership reward points to bang her into a Sanctuary De-Vere Hotel / Health Spa for the week-end. You then get to play Paintball whilst she gets her hair, nails, face, cellulite and belly button fluff buffed or removed. This really is a win win for the discerning baller, you get to play and on your return you have a much more aesthetically pleasing other half (with laying the pipe guaranteed).

I would warn against playing too many 3 dayers or Millenniums in a year, as these can extend to shopping trips to Barcelona, Milan, engagement rings and subsequent financial ruin.

Of course on reflection it would probably be cheaper to do a season in Formula One. To be honest I've often wondered if it would be possible to get the biatch sponsored in a F1 fashion sorta like:

3m for the logo all over the handbag
1.5m for the shoes
1m for the logo on jeans back pocket
20m for sunglasses etc etc.

However I was assured this would be impossible, as the Global Fashion industry would be unable to sustain an Autumn / Winter 03/04 collection without Ms Stongl's and Ms Frain's Financial Aid Package.

Ben i see what you are saying iv'e got a wife and three kids who take priority over paintball but out of every four weeks i only play /train two of them,
the rest of the time is for my family but if your other half is anything like most they still see it as " boys playing war in the woods ".

i may be lucky in that mine see's it as my pleasure and at least im not urinating it up the wall or smoking it away ..

P.S there is Grantham and Sleaford within 15 mins drive from site for shopping ..
;)

P.P.S i also value this training more than playing the cup this
weekend as i think you cant put a price on this level of training
