As WildWayz pointed out you have to remove that lid/view bit and then remove the tray and at the bottom of it is the battery compartment, at least it has velcro to keep them in place.

Yes, but remember under EU consumer rights you have 2 years to claim for repair or replace if you can show that it is a manufacturer defect or the product is not suitable for the use it is intended.
