I can only agree with you 'H'.

I suppose going on strike won't help any - as he'll probably just fire you.

Wish I could help mate - but if I hear of anything anywhere...

your emploer is well and truly breaking the law regarding your working hours.

There are strict limits to the hours children and young people under school leaving age (see under heading General rules on employment) are allowed to work. You must not work:-

*during school hours on any school day
*for more than two hours on any school day or for more than 12 hours in any week in which you are required to go to school
*for more than two hours on a Sunday
*for more than eight hours (five hours if you are under 15) on any day which is not a school day or a Sunday
*before 7am or after 7pm
*for more than 35 hours (25 if you are under the age of 15) in any week in which you are not required to go to school
*for more than four hours in any day without a break of one hour
at any time, if during the 12 months beginning 1 January, working means that you have not had two uninterrupted weeks of holiday from school.

You also need a permit to work

*Employers who want to employ children or young people under school leaving age are required to get a permit from their local authority. The permit must be signed by both the employer and one of your parents.

All from citizens advice berau.

Which probably means his insurance wont pay out if he is not meetng all these conditions. I know mine wont and I run a site myself.

Though there is no minimum wage for anyone under 16 - over 16 its £3.00 an hour rising to £3.30 from 1st october 2006.

Your in a catch 22 situation really. You put up with it and keep on taking some money or you loose your job. Though as its his responsibility to check on his insurance etc if you did hurt yourself and the insurance wouldnt pay out you could just sue your boss.

Might as well try to blackmail your boss, could earn some pennies that way, and by rights you really are owed back-wages. £20 takes the complete and utter piss.

To be honest, what marshal employers actually give a damn about the law? It's usually all cash in hand and breaks any number of employment/tax/health & safety laws....

To be honest, 14 years old is far to young to be a field marshall. The site i occasionally work at does employ under 18s but only as base-camp gimps and not on-field.

Don't want to gloat, but I used to get £60/day for marshalling. I dont anymore, because I got a raise to 70

Your boss is a cock, and you can get better paid work elsewhere. Unless you get benefits from him, such as cheap paint or kit or training, why bother? If he doesn't, I'd recommend stealing. No way in hell I would from my current job (because I get paid more than enough) but if I got pittance then I would reimburse myself accordingly. You're already on bad terms so what is there to lose? ;)

(not responsible if you get fired/beat up as a result...but I am serious about finding other work)
