Ok, if your PC is messing up like that, check:
Win.ini :
Check next to load at the top of the file, this should be blank. Delete whatever is next to it.
System.ini :
Check next to shell at the top of the page, there should be Explorer.exe next to it, if there is anything else next to it, delete it, but leave Explorer.exe
Then, if you know what you are doing open up regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run and delete anything that is not supposed to be there, but do not do this if you have no idea whats supposed to be in there, but look for irregular filenames
like RunDLL1.exe or kernal321.exe or even szfgszbhzd.exe. But make sure you check before deleting any of these keys.

BIOS - Open it up and go to auto recognise for the 3 1/2 drive (A, that should sort that.
If you have had the PC apart, check the ribbon to see if you have put it back in the right way round, you can usually tell by a continuos green light on your A: drive.
Ok, that will fix most problems, but do yourself a favor and buy partition magic
