More World Cup misery

Okay, kids. Maybe nobody can agree on who did what when or why but here's some more food for thought on what is fast becoming an unavoidable issue.
The quote below is ostensibly from a WC ref regarding the reported widespread instances of ringers playin' Rookie. Believe the "ref" or not this isn't the only instance of this being reported.
It's one thing for individual player or players to effect pre-meditated cheating and it's another thing for the powers that be to not only fail to provide sufficient refs but appear to offer tacit approval of large scale rules violations--if only because they were unwilling to confront the problems when they arose.

QUOTE---[Look. I know the rules. I knew that this guy was an AM player and I radioed to the desk to inform them of this person illeagally playing. I was then informed by the "important people" that 2 were allowed. I know the rules buddy and that is why I was "snitching" on this guy. I was informed it was okay. Whoever told me then should be the one to blame. Not the refs. A few of us were discussing it and we all were AMAZED by this "NEW" rule. All I am saying is that us ref's tried to inform the promoters about these players (and there were several teams that we noticed on) and we were told it is okay. The ones to blame are the rules committee personel. Not the Ref's.]

Nice!

And people wonder why we're so cyinical? Christ, this food for thought is a freaking bountiful harvest!

I don't know any of you from a hole in the wall, but it seems to me that most pay their hard earned money to go to these events, and to find out after the the fact we we're takin'n for a ride just smokes my bones!

I don't blame the reffs for this, like you said....they tried to do the right thing. Damn it to hell people, this is so wrong!

I guess we just 'fess up and do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons, that's what get's the recognition....who really cares how you got there.

No outrage from the masses......just some irate posters such as myself, and the status quo will prevail..... DOh!

isnt this the whole reason for id cards to stop this kind of blatant cheating going on!!

or may be id cards are just another income!!

Hey let's be blummin' careful and get this in perspective, othewise everyone'll get the impression that we're on the downward slope to oblivion.

The first ever tournament held was probably the only one that didn't feature ringers. It's ****e I know, but it happens in every amateur sport there is going.

id cards? Every amateur sport in the world wants id cards. How many have em...? ****-all.

What's the ultimate going to say in this situ. get em off the pitch? And the next team, and the next and the next... Besides, at least this ringer had the decency to hide behind an inflatable and not a tree.

everyone says sport but big time pball is still a money making proposition for a limited few and when it comes to sports integrity vs. alienating customers money, apparently, wins hands down. However, how many players and teams re-consider their involvement long term based on this kind of shabby, hypocritical treatment--the PSP plan to deal with ringers was to make regular announcements about how it would be dealt with harshly and teams checked on fields--and then when it came to doing anything blow it off.
What's the ulitmate goin' to say? No I.D. and no matching picture I.D. you don't go on the field--play with 9, 8, 7 or however many real rostered players you got. Simple. What are the teams going to do? "Wah, we got caught cheatin' we're not playing this again." For every one of those you got ten who begin to trust the promoters and maybe start to believe the integrity of the game matters almost as much as the money.
If you foster an environment that condones misconduct you invite misconduct.

The broken record is starting to skip again...

The following was posted on Smacktalk just after some posts about padded Dye jerseys:
_________________________________
Pity the teams that see me on the field (unless I'm standing on the other side of the field). Any player who comes wearing a padded jersey, unless it is padded only on the elbows, will have to change shirts. Any player who doesn't have a valid ID card will not get to play (if there's enough time I'll let him run get it quickly). If the player has stickers all over her hopper, she'll have to change hoppers or play without a hopper. If a player gets hit on the back he better call for a paintcheck pronto or it'll be a 1-4-1. If a player keeps shooting with hits on, I'll probably do a 2-4-1. If a player argues with me about a call I'll simply say "1-4-1 for arguing with a ref." and pull another player. If a player gets hit and waits for me to come pull her armband I'll take hers and one more.

Why? Because I love power! NOT! It's about time we started following the rules. If we don't think the rules need to be enforced, then change them. Everybody needs to be a dick, not just me and a few others. We gotta getta hold of this thing.

And guess who posted that? Lil 'o moi .

I don't understand what's so hard about this. Just let all the judges and players know we're gonna follow tha rules. Put an independent head-judge on each field who will be held accountable for following tha rules. Then follow 'em.

Don't sound too hard to me. OR WHUT?

Piccies from the world cup.

A friend of mine posted me some pictures of the Aftershock Vs Dynasty game.

Picture 1

Aftershock player playing on with sizeable hit in chest.

Picture 2

Aftershock playing on with Hit (and spray on goggles) on hopper.

Now ok maybe if as a judge you were feeling really bloody generous you'd let the hopper one go. I'll say that i've been hit there before and i didn't notice a damn thing until a nice judge pointed it out to me. But you get hit in the chest and you damn well notice it. Apprantly these two players helped Shock to the win.
Now who's at fault? The shock players? They knew they ran the risk of 1 or 2 for 1's if caught and decided the "push the envelope" a bit. They weren't caught and the result of that speaks for itself. It's now so important to win that the Marshalls in these types of games have got to be **** hot to stop things disintigrating into a total farce.

Bottom line. If you are the least bit scared of 1 for 1 ing say Chris LaSoya or Oli Lang then your gonna have problems.

But Millhouse, what you didn't notice was that there's a marshal just out of shot on the first picture, and he's told the 'shock player to play on cos the hit was from an eliminated player.

Hey, a picture paints a 1000 words.

Hey, a picture paints a 1000 words.
Herewith we have some of the most difficult and seldom-done-right moments in paintball.

To deal with Milhouse's points as he framed it: imagine seeing a judge jump in after seeing the hit on the chest or the hopper hit with spray after hypothetically seeing the players play on. And seeing the judge pull the armband and then one or two others. And upon hearing protests saying, "Arguing with a judge, 1-4-1." It does happen sometimes, albeit too seldom.

Now let's take Rancid's point: a judge has told the player to keep playing because the hit was non-valid. This is where the proverbial sushi hits the fan. As a judge who may have just run into that scene I would pull the player and do a 1- or 2-4-1, and thereby open a can of worms with player saying "The judge said to keep playing!" etc. And me red-faced behind my mask.

That's why it states:
______________________________________
10.21...Judges will wipe splatter or non-valid hits off a player at the time they are inspected. No player will be allowed to continue play with paint that is considered non-valid until it is wiped clean by a judge.
_______________________________________

Another situations where the good marshalls are separated from the bad ones. I'm not perfect but this is where I usually get the shizit pelted out of me. I usually say something like, "Keep playing. I have to get this splatter/non-valid hit off of you."

This is one of the fine points I would take up in a pre-tournament briefing with the refs.
