Crass.. maybe... but that aint gonna change anytime soon.

The sad thing is, virgin's network infrastructure is amazingly well conceptualised, if the goverment paid virgin to roll it out, it would be much MUCH better than what we will get.
The government did pay for the cable network roll out, which is why certain locations don't get cable even if its in their area as to the rules on what the governemnt would pay for, and is probably half the reason why the government is being asked to fund this (via tax payers)

Thats not what i heard, from what Ive been told by multiple sources is the virgin network is entirely owned by virgin, and they got into severe debts because of it.

Which is why they only have it in places "worthwhile"

Before NTL bought up the other regions and later became Virgin Media the government funded the national installation of cabling to 'every' UK household and gifted it to the regional provider, however this went as far as the point outside the house, and excluded private land unless the landowner gave permission & handed over cash.

Virgin Media (not Virgin - VM pay for rights to use the name) own the cable network which costs to maintain, but is an asset.

(Except when McNicholas install a junction box on a stately homes private land ignoring the accountant stood there telling them to leave and then pay compensation to avoid legal action)

For new build estates etc it depends on the builders and the company as to whether it gets provided.

its about right. you download in megabytes but connect at megabits, so you have to devide your connected speed by 10 to give you roughtly your download speed.
