A proper website as you call it is written in pure HTML and would cost you a fortune to maintain, but then you are talking programming.
You can use a scripting language such as perl PHP or even something like ASP (if you love microsoft).
You store the content in a SQL database.

You can easily create your own interface so that anyone can enter content into the database, and use the scripts to parse the output with html or even better CSS markup.

Its not programing its just scripting, even kids can do it.

Using flash (or swish theyre all the same to me) is discriminating against 30% of your audience, this is unacceptable if you are trying to provide up to date information about a tournament series.

Just getting into ASP.net for work, not much choice but to go the M/S way. Trouble with most websites nowadays, it's the ease of set up and the low cost that drives the decision behind method of construction.

Aye people see frontpage and think thats how you make websites.

Anyway we are agreed;

We are not interested in flashy animations, magic pop up windows background music or flying text.

We just want a fast and up to date website. Hell I'll do it of no one else will (i might live to regret that).

no flashy animations - i.e. look at me i'm moving and flashing
no magic pop up windows
no background music and
no flying text

i really don't see what the problem is...
anyway enough of me being controversial can someone answer my above question out of idle curiosity....

The whole website is actually one animated interactive movie
Can tell it is made using Swish 2.0 because the Webmaster, has left all the Swish advertising tags in place.
I must agree with John and say put flash in it's place as an enhancement to a standard website, If you want to make your personal website using only flash then thats ok.
