Lots of times, never had any problems with poor visibility as long as the appropriate lenses are used. Clear, orange or yellow lenses rather than smoke or mirrored ones.:)

i know Tubbie and i know his beanie :)
it's too late for his safety :D

LOL, you should see my new beanie, it's like a sponge sucks all the paint right up! :)

But after 14 years of paintball and constantly being shot on the forehead i still have about 10 braincells left which i would like to preserve....So this is why head protection should be allowed.

On a more serious note: Would you think the following suggested rule would or could be ridiculously abused?

"Players are encouraged to wear head protection and any thickness thereof is allowed."

Or slightly reworded for either:-

a) Head protection can be worn as long as it is not over 2mm thick.

or

b) Head protection can be worn of any thickness as long as it has a hard plastic coating.

(This idea of a hard plastic coating being first suggested by either D V V or Red Merkin to which I willingly defer :) )

Simple :)

That makes sense. I think the concept of proper padding and protection with a hard surface on which paint easily breaks is a sound one regardless of the originator of the idea. It will, however, be difficult to implement quickly seeing there are not many such products (that I know about) on the market. Maybe if we give advance notice of such requirements the demand and the supply may appear almost simultaneously.

(This way of discussing rules is the way to make progress. Let's just hope some of the Movers and Shakers are paying attention.)

I just thought of a down-side to the concept of hard-surfaced protection. I fear that such a requirement would severly inhibit players from using such protection thereby increasing players' vulnerability to injury. More injuries ain't good.

When I think of this as a player I realize that thicker "sock caps" offer better protection and less pain but are damned hot in warm weather. Therefore I almost always choose a bandana instead.

Ditto when I'm reffing.

The slight possibility of extra bouncers in the areas that really need protection is at least slight motivation for players to use injury-reducing protection.

Maybe someday protection of vulnerable areas will be required, perhaps by insurance companies.

See my point? Thoughts?

Think there should be requirments to head protection but 2 mm thick is not very protective i think, can't really say what would be enough though (5mm ? 7 mm? 10mm?). Concerning the hard plastic surface, this means it's probably easier to wipe the paint so don't think that would be a good idea. i would stick with a max. thickness of head protection altough it will be another hard to enforce and check rule........

That's why I think the wording I used may not be so bad after all ("Players are encouraged to wear head protection and any thickness thereof is allowed."). Let players wear turbans if they like. There is a point where any possible bouncing advantage backfires as a bigger target and/or objects of discomfort and ridiculously naffy looks (not that that ever bothered me:D).
