You seem to think penalties should be fair to the person receiving them. This is silly - the whole point of penalties is that they are *NOT* fair. They need to be so UNFAIR that players make an active effort to not get penalties called against them.

It's not enough to just try and curtail playing on. The penalties should be so harsh that players don't even want to look like they're thinking about playing on.

You're argument seems to think that penalties shouldn't be as harsh if the infraction didn't impact the game - why not? Players are not allowed to play on. Period. What happens after the rule is broken is irrelevant. We should not, and there is no need to, coddle players who break the rules.

If a player doesn't think the penalty for breaking a rule is fair, then the rule is written correctly! Any rule where a player thinks the penalty is proportional to the crime IS A BAD RULE.

No need to apologise, Paul. And I'm not going to apologize for giving my opinions about the purpose of penalties in the context of the discussion. Please note precisely what my response was and you should see that I'm not trying to impose heavy philosophy into rule making but rather explaining with a little more depth that good rules are going to deter cheating and help create a more equitable playing field.

To put it into simpler terms this is the kind of post-match discussion we might prefer to overhear: "Yo cheatin' ass cost us the game, mofo! You get caught playin' on again in an important game and we's gonna sling yo sorry ass!" Much to be preferred compared to: "Next time don't get caught, dumbass!", "Yeah, but that got us the point(s) didn't it?!".

So go ahead and suggest some practical and fair rules along with enforcement mechanics. We might even agree with you. The one you suggested so far about a player caught playing on starting at the beginning of the next round kinda sucks in my opinion (as Chi also pointed out).

Merry Christmas! It's a white Boxing Day/Annandag jul here in Stockholm.

....maybe the captains from each team who might be affected by any such changeover to XBall will get to decide some of the details of the format they play this year.

Its still "7-man World Cup" in March?

Does anybody actually know anything about the format? I am so full of reading "between the lines"...

So simply:

5- multimatch or old 7-man?

Thanks.
