I think to play at a real good level you have to be very physically capable depending on where you play.
Mid and front players obviously have the job of running and jumping into and over bunkers which tends to favour young, short and carefree new players.
I myself play a variety of positions, because I believe I will experience more doing this in the first throws of tournament play. I'm sure i'll settle into a particular position pretty soon, but I reckon flexibility on position is a bonus to any team.
Also, learning to be ambidextrous with your shooting and diving/sliding will probably be a benefit.
I've heard many a team player moan they can't make a left hand bunker which they manage to make the same one when they play on the right!!!!

Very good words, i've been told however that there is an age after which your are "too old" to become a pro.
Would you agree with this or would you beg to differ.
I certainly don't agree with it, but have had older experienced ballers say that I myself at 28 years am too old.
First, don't let anything anyone tells you dissuade you from the course you want to pursue.
That said, as a general rule 28 is probably a bit old for a couple of reasons--at least by current American standards. In older players you expect (require) top level experience--a proven track record if you will--or exceptional ability. Otherwise, the target candidate is young, trainable, talented and balls to the wall who has already demonstrated the fundamental traits you're looking for in competition. The question then becomes can they do it at the next level and can they also improve? And if I have two guys who are about the same but one is 17 and the other 28 I go with youth cus there's a larger potential upside.
Of course the ballin' environment could make all the difference in the world. If I really needed a particular kind of player and you were good enough to fit the bill or so good as to not be passed up regardless then age would be a factor but not a deciding factor.
At the end of the day 28 isn't too old to play Pro quality pball but it's harder to get that first opportunity.

I hear you, but like you say, i'm not going to give up until i've been specifically ruled out of pro ball play by all teams i've tried to get in with. :)

Good words robbo.since I met my partner her enthusiasm for the sport has pushed me forward. I have left my old team. Reign of fire and I wish them all the best. In search of trying to better myself and my girlie, she plays ball like she was meant to do it. So we are both off to find our fortune on the big world of ball. Funny that your words have come just when we have both been talking exactly what you have said we need to do. So with a feeling of the robbo blessing on what we are doing is right. Thanks

Maybe it is a different game now from Robbo's "Hay Day"...but, I have a pretty good idea, how many candles Robbo has on his birthday cake. I met him 8 years ago, I know he was playing at least 10 years before that...so....HE wasn't too old.

no no no no no.....I have to stop reading Robbo's posts, this is the third time in 6 months I have agreed and respected what the big chap has said.....damn it!!!!!!!

I'm in a pretty lucky position where I have some land at the back of my house, okay not quiet an NPPL field going in there but big enough for a 3/5 man field and a re-ball tunnel....looks like it's a hard year of training for the Scots.......

Excellent words Robbo.....respect.

well with regards to getting a few more southern training facilities like for example df7's there are plans in the pipe work- trouble is atm with all this 'fire-arms laws / regs' crap etc local councils/ authorities dont want to know or just arent interested in letting pb develop and will continually throw a proverbial spanner in the works to make matters worse!!
why do regualtions suck soo much in this country??

so let me get this straight, 28 is too old? my arse, no offence to him but how old is ledz? bob long? lasoya is quite old isnt he? yes they've already made it to pro but they keep the level the same if not improve, i mean i hope to be balling when im 28 and im 16 now :D holy crap 12 years of paintball will leave some serious mental issues lol.

also i train at the northern quarter with markie and the rest of the firm and since then i think my game has improved dramaticly cos i train against top level players, its the way to go guys! get up here and train against the best to beat the best. theres no better feeling then shooting a nexus, kellys or phoenix guy out! :) of course 9/10 times they shoot u but hey c'est la vie
