I am a rec ball player that is very interested in getting involved in tournaments. I play woodsball and have never played speedball before. I use a Tippman 98 with an upgraded barrel. This has worked for me in rec ball but I feel I may be outgunned in a tournament setting. I was just looking for some ideas for tournament quality guns in the $300-$400 price range. Also any tournament info for the Northeastern Ohio area would be appreciated. Thanks.

just check out reveiws on the many websites out there. A tippman with a flatline might work if you play back but if you are up front you might want somthing that shoots a bit faster, dont think I am dissing your gun tippmans are verry reliable and acurate with simple upgrades

It depends on the standard of the teams you would be playing whether your Tippy could compete. As Joe Bob says have a look at the various review sites on the web & see what they have to say, and once you find out about any reasonably local tourneys get yourself down there & have a look at what the others are playing with.
A decent second hand quality marker should do you better than a new lower range job for tourneys, & if worried about your rate of fire then look at electros.
Watching tourneys will help you get a feel for what the different types of arenas are like to play, & you could get to know some of the teams & maybe get a game with them.

there are loads of old automags out there, that can be picked up for a few quid, for a bit more money, there's old angels, and loads of old autocockers out there too sitting in people's kit bags.

I bought an evolution Autococker a year ago for a meer £350 from Bully, and it shot fantastic, strait off CO2 and was perfect at entry level tournament.

Tippmans can be used at a tourney level, as proven by Tippman Effect who recently won big in the states, however the guns do need a little extra love to get them up to spec. The same thing with Spyders and Bad Company, they use low end guns but trick them out to get better results.

You can shoot whatever you're comfortable with, but you may find that there's guns out there that are better suited for Tournament paintball than your Tippman. Do you know any tourney players personally? if so ask about, many of them have old markers that they'd be willing to sell you that would be perfect for tourney paintball. I think it's how a lot of us got started.

I am considering buying a 68 AutoMag Classic with powerfeed. I figure if I put on some new upgrades it could compete. I understand that the AutoMag comes with an excellent warranty policy. The part of Ohio in which I live has very few paintball fields and even fewer entry level tourneys. But Ill keep my eyes peeled. Thanks for the advice.
