I was talking to a guy today and he was concerned that any man and his dog can easily get hold of a paintball marker. obviously a marker in the wrong hands could be trouble as it only takes a few incidents like drive by shootings or hitting the local wildlife, whatever and we could find paintball being banned in this country. I know their have already been a few involving a garage being lit up and an old peoples home being hit which caused some damage including a smashed window. to prevent such incidents from happening and giving paintball a bad name, it was sugested that all buying and selling of paintball markers be registered, anyone wishing to buy must have photographic id and documents that have their address. whats ur imput?

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but look at firearms for example. You have to have a licence for certain types, but it doesn't stop people getting hold of them illegally, doing 'drive-bys', hitting the local wildlife, criminal damage etc.
Only the honest players will register their markers and then you'd still have the muppets who won't and that won't solve the problem. Anyway, it's a very small minority of people, is it worth it?

I like the idea of registration of markers. But not for the reasons stated above (ie the control of there use). I like the idea of registering markers with somewhere in order to track serial numbers etc in case some low life decides to 'wander' off with your kit :)

I think it's a good idea really. Mainly because it will show 'the powers that be' (i.e police etc) that paintballers are not a bunch of lunatics (mostly!:D ) and that the people that go round shooting things / people are not something (hopefully) connected to the sport!

It will also help paintballs case as a whole and go a long way to helping it stay alive and kicking...After all, how many stories do you hear where paintball is being / has been banned??

At least with this idea it will show that it is a serious sport played by serious people!:p

Cough Cough

Anyone got a copy of PGI from about 2 years ago, I put a letter into Speak your Brains, even won a mask talking about exactly this.....pro-active people....not reactive.......

Get it sorted on our own before the authorities TELL us what to do!!

just my thoughts....

Come on TJ, look at it from someone not in the paintball circle, doesn't matter how we package this or how much we try to describe it to shall we say non paintballers it's still guys/gals with guns.

And authorities frown on this.

As it stands Joe Bloggs can walk into a store and buy a marker, then do what he likes, no one knows if he even plays paintball.

I'll give you an example, I had a group on our local site one day and one of the guys was going on about how he owned an automag. He lived in the centre of London, so, me thinking he was a player started showing him a Bushmaster we had for sale. I'll buy it right now, so, just as we were going to seal the deal I asked which site he played at in London? Only to find out he didn't even play paintball but thought it was fun to shot police officers from the top of his flat on a main road!!!

Needless to say the sale fell through.

I'm not saying we give up our freedom here, all I am saying is let's maybe look at this ourselves as players and maybe we as players can come up with ideas on how to control the markers changing hands etc.

I'm sure I would rather that than have someone in a Tin Flute who thinks of paintball as "war games" dictate to me how he thinks paintball should be controlled.....

Just my thoughts Big Guy....see you in Toulouse for beer and French burds...
