What's the deal with 45 grips? If a gun is stated as having a 45 grip, does that mean that any other "45 grip" will fit in it's place?
I've seen some nice DYE ones (well I think they're nice) and I wondered if they'd fit the Tippmann 98c.

Also, my gun is 2nd hand, so I'm just finding my way around it... I was going to get an on/off valve when I spotted the pin valve version:

What's the main difference between USING an on/off and a pin valve? Any pros/cons? The reason I'm asking is because I think I've already got a pin valve...

If I do get an on/off valve, what's required to fit - is it just unscrew one and screw in the other?? Is an anti-syphon tube recommended whilst I'm playing with CO2 and how do I line it up properly?

When oiling the gun, Tippmann recommend Hoppes 9 - any stockists of this around or what other oils do people generally use?

Hi mate
Most 45 grips should fit it

OK an on-off valve is far better than a pin valve.
Main reason is that when you unscrew your tank from your marker, there is still gas under pressure in the marker. With a pin valve there is no way to release the gas from the marker (unless you fire until the tank is empty) so when you unscrew the tank, you get gas shoot out the bottom line from the marker as well as from the bottle. Which means you will go through a hell of a lot of tank o rings as they will usually break. With an on-off, you can turn off the gas supply to the marker then fire a few times to empty the marker of gas. then it should be safe to unscrew the tank.
Another good reason is safety. Empty your marker of gas before you get to the safe zone and there is no way you can accidently fir it.

Hope this made sense.

An anti siphon is a great investment, but I would recommend you to get someone who knows what they are doing. Its not because the job is hard, but you have to be really careful in positioning it.

Yup, perfect sense, crystal...

...one thing tho - is it easy enough to fit the on/off valve?

On the pin valve there's the hexagonal nut - does that serve the same purpose as an on/off thumb screw but is just a lot smaller?

Thats the burst disk cover. Basically if for whatever reason there is a problem with the tank, instead of it blowing up the burst disk will blow first. You see the hole in the side of it? If co2 spunks out of that your burst disk has gone.

Hey, don't even try installing an on/off valve yourself, unless your an airsmith. You really should go to a shop to get it done, that way you know its installed right, and if it does fail, your not liable for misuse of you equipment.

And yes, the dye grips will fit on the 98.

 Bugger.

Do anti-syphon tubes work in conjunction with expansion chambers?

If Sparklie happened to have a shiny on/off valve and an equally shiny anti-syphon tube, would there be anyone at her site to fit it for me? :)

Hmm, while several people would be well qualified to do it, I'm not sure if the tools would be available on site -- you generally need some hefty tools, a source of heat if removal of the old valve is necessary, and a lot of expertly applied brute force :)

I have fitted valves and anti-siphons a few times, but by far the hardest bit always seems to be getting the old valve off -- they are held on with loctite, and screwed down as hard as possible. After all, you don't want it coming loose when the bottle is under pressure.

if we are talking about academy day, then my hefty tool kit, the site vice, and about 60 paintballers might will be available.
Let alone tiny's, Paul Hill's (not on the forum, but a genuine airsmith) and my airsmith ability (or inability).
I will be officially playing, but always willing to take a few minutes out to fix stuff.
(it wouldnt be paintball if i didnt spend half the day fixing marker problems :))
