What does it matter if he plays or not? You should be able to earn your respect in the paintball scene without ever have had shoot a ball!

I got no clue on who Chris Rahel is, more then from what he writes on this board - this is just in general!
We need both in the sport - people playing the game and people trying to make it better in some way for those playing it.

It really makes me sad to read that you have to be a pro player to be someone in this sport(?). Or had to write some tactic/strat. for this game - what about us putting down ALOT of time trying to organize tournaments with minimum income, if any - and sometimes going minus.
Its not a walk in the park running a major series, or a minor series - or just a "simple" tournament.

I try to be a organizer myself and well...
Respect is all I strive to get - because I sure as hell have never got any cash for all the time I put in - not that is worth mentioning anyway.

I am sure I somehow misunderstood Robbos post on this, i really hope so.
That us perhaps not being good pro players at least should get some credit for being involved in the scene in other ways - making it even possible for pro players to even exist!

My 20 cent, and mind my english.

No you didn't mis-understand my post at all, you just didn't read it properly !!!

This is a quote from that post :-

I mean, at least, play one game as a pro and do something in that game, play as an Am and get in the top three, come up with a new technique or tactic that has some practical value for us all to utilise, FFS do something significant

Now this was said in the context of raehl coming on this board pleading with us all to bask in his self- proclaimed glory of producing some menial inconsequential admin programme.
No where do I say, you have to be a pro or you have to be somebody, don't twist my words to suit your post !!!!!!!

I merely suggested he actually 'do' something before he starts arrogantly proclaiming his genius amongst the readers of this site, or anywhere else for that matter.

Totally agree with you robbo, mate. And no im not butt crawling either. I have read the whole thread and well, there has been alot of slagging off, which to outside ppl is not really appealing.
I feel if Chris made a thread without the 'I rule' i think abit more support would have been given for his personal achievement, rather than slagging off!!

You guys are no fun.

Steve: Which question have I not answered? I specifically stated what every category in your question was, and in addition elaborated on the RELEVANT categories you did not ask about (specifically, tax-exempt organization, which is what really matters.) I'm not sure if you're just asking bad questions because you know they won't have clean answers, or because you just don't understand non-profits, but the answer is the way it is.

As for your more recent ridiculous question with an obvious answer, our Directors are listed on our website in the "Organization" section. If you consult public records in Wisconsin, you will also be able to see the Directors from last year (the difference due to our Board changing office in June and our annual report being filed in September.)

Again, I'm not sure if you're just trying to wage a campaign of confusion or are just unable to conduct simple tasks.

Pete: The truly sad part is, you ARE 10-100x more popular/well-known/respected/whatever in the sport than I am - but you don't do much with it other than complain. I'm not in a position to solve all of the sport's problems, but the ones I *AM* in a position to solve I make an honest crack at, and a player ID system is one of those problems.

Why don't you take your reputation/respect/whatever and use it to DO something? Maybe establish a European referee organization that trains, certifies and tracks referees, and then parlay that into an American or worldwide organization? This sport needs someone to write down some standards on HOW officiating should be done (from resolving disputes all the way down to the correct call in particular situations, including how to make that call), and it would seem that you're in a position to do something about it.

Or would you rather just continue to bitch after events about how you were screwed over by officials?

The sport is full of people who can point out and complain about problems - just look at www.smacktalkpaintball.com. People who can SOLVE paintball's problems are apparently much more rare. Maybe believing that the only people worth respect are Pro players makes you and some other players FEEL better, but it's not going to improve the game.

A lot of the times, improving the game REQUIRES that you're not a player just to escape all the conflict-of-interest accusations.

As for the whole "I rule" thing, it was tongue-in-cheek. I figured given the number of big-egos running around here most would get the joke, but unfortunately some missed it - or maybe it just hit a little too close to home.

Seriously now..... you are advertised as being a consultant for the EPA...... do you honestly think there is no need for a player registry in Europe, along the very same lines with what is being implemented in the PSP now ?
And I will happily make the ID system available to the EPA for free, along with the ability to administer the database for all European players/events. If the EPA wants to charge for IDs, or give them out, or whatever, that's up to them (so long as the EPA takes care of actually issuing any IDs, they can retain all the funds generated from doing so as well). The only thing I ask is that the EPA pass on APPA's requirements that government photo ID is checked prior to issuing tournament ID, and that photo ID's are checked on-field at events using the system (otherwise having it is just a waste of people's time and money).

Getting Up Again
Nick,

has APPA 'been in negotiations with EPA about the roster program' as CR claimed earlier, or is that just an outgrowth of the current thread?

I think Pete's already answered the question: He HAS used his position to try and influence things in a positive fashion - much more so than most people, including CR, are aware. His editorials alone have exposed numerous issues to light and his positions on many issues in the past have contributed to making positive changes.

The problem is that we all have to keep on wading through the likes of CR and his ilk (2nd generation dwarves are worst than the originals in some cases) over and over and over again.
