...the only thing that is going to fix this is for more experienced marshalls to make up the bulk of each field. The more inexperienced marshalls should be distributed amongst the old-hands to gain first hand experience of how it should be done.
The ultimates on each field should be the muts nuts, and well known as such.
And now on to the public flamin argument.... There were a certain 4 guys on one of the aforementioned fields who have all had plenty of customer marshalling experience, but I believe this was their first shot at judging a tourney. And after they've read this, probably the last.
Admittedly, I can't judge the other marshalling teams, but this is maybe something that needs consideration when selecting marshalls for future events. I certainly don't think that totally slating a bunch of guys when you have no idea of their marshalling abilities/experiences is appropriate. Perhaps, if anyone, the organisers should be held accountable as they were the ones who ultimately employed and distributed the marshalling squads...
Sparklie, Liz, please don't take that personally, I'm just trying to add a new spin on the argument. Personally, I gotta admit I was well impressed by the event today, and I wasn't even playing. Best yet without a doubt.
Maybe it is time for tournaments to employ the services of a dedicated "Marshall Supplier", who can provide marshalls of varying degrees of ability (perhaps a grading structure), who have all been trained and approved up to their various levels. Something has to be done.
It's got to the stage where people don't tend to moan much about facilities, organisation, etc, etc. The only thing left to moan about really are the marshalls, so it needs to be addressed.
Feel free to attack me.
