Great day lads, cheers for a good one, Yea i saw a player blatently cheat once he had been mugged out on the RPS field, who later bragged about it, so yea, prehaps there was some inexperienced marshelling, but that player should of been one for one'd, for cheating, not pointing any fingers...

I think constructive critism would be more beneficial to british paintball than bitching...:(

No need to get bitter and twisted about this, Sam has made a point which several people agree with and he is entitled to do this on a public site. I personally wouldn't marshall you lot for all the tea in China, so well done to the folks who had to stand in the sahara temperatures and deal with us. If they didn't do very well, I'm sure they won't be asked again. If you know any of them, maybe someone could give them 'constructive criticism' to help them improve? ;)
I wasnt there today, so i cant really comment. But i totally agree with you Bird. At the end of the day mistakes happen and im sure they werent made on purpose. So give em advice instead. I mean Sam at the end of the day mate you said it yourself you see this as training. So treat it as training and learn from the mistakes made today...

By the way has anyone got the placing results of all divisions????

big big titties
ok, was there

i play back so i dont really notice these bad calls as im more focused...so not much to say on the marshalling front. although i did join in in some shouting at a marshall on SP field Redz novice vs storm, when a dead storm player(shot on head, blatently) was allowed back in, to then shoot my mate who had the flag nearly to his base in his arse repeatedly which hurt, and then the marshall to cal it ok, till every single side of the field was inundated with bytstander and player shout f#ck off hes out!!

brilliant venue, shame about the party:rolleyes: . the inside pitting was a bit dodgy aswell inside and all. erm, if we have the diablo and rps field again, set it out better as i have told jiggy:) cos they sucked balls big time!

your challenge

ok you lot know matter how much you gripe on here it's not going to get any better

so i set you a challenge
pm me or e-mail me your suggestions (and make them realistic )as to how the marshalling could be improved on and i will put them all together and pass them all to sparklie in one for you so she doesn't have to wade through heaps of pm's

now i'm guessing that not very many of you will be man or woman enough to do this so prove me wrong by all means

all i can do is pass them on i cant promise that any of them will be taken in to consideration as that has nothing to do with me but they stand a better chance of being taken into account

one last question
is it always the marshall's at fault or sometimes is it your attitudes and tempers

If you work it out, 5 divisions with 8 teams each, that's something like 150 games in total (ok, I couldn't be arsed to work it out, but it's something close to that:D).

Sure, there were some bad calls and occasions (several even...) where marshalls were not as "perfect" as they could be. But every time we see a contentious decision, we remember it. How many good calls can we remember? I saw several disputes during games where if afterwards, you analyze what you see, the correct call was made at the time. Thing is, the marshall saw this and acted correctly within seconds. Ok, mebbe the more experienced marshalling teams will say they could do better, and I'm sure they could. However, they're all playing to get some training in for the milleniums.

I think it's a tough job standing out on those fields for 8 or 9 hours in the blazing sun, and if their concentration lapsed for short or even long bursts, shouldn't we be able to forgive them?

I say "Well done" to the good marshalling that was present today, and "remember for next time" for the bad calls. At the end of the day, we're all just trying to do what we can. If the milleniums are flawed by bad judging, I don't think it's reasonable to expect Sparklie's series to be flawless.

M25 has come leaps and bounds since Bricket Wood. The venue was good, the fields were up on time, and the facilities were more than adequate. You cannot deny that postive feedback has helped Sparklie improve the series. I for one had a brilliant day. We didn't get a place, but we learned a great deal.

Cheers to everyone involved!

yes it is but when that lapse of concentration can cost you a game it isnt quite so forgiveable ....

...the only thing that is going to fix this is for more experienced marshalls to make up the bulk of each field. The more inexperienced marshalls should be distributed amongst the old-hands to gain first hand experience of how it should be done.

The ultimates on each field should be the muts nuts, and well known as such.

And now on to the public flamin argument.... There were a certain 4 guys on one of the aforementioned fields who have all had plenty of customer marshalling experience, but I believe this was their first shot at judging a tourney. And after they've read this, probably the last.

Admittedly, I can't judge the other marshalling teams, but this is maybe something that needs consideration when selecting marshalls for future events. I certainly don't think that totally slating a bunch of guys when you have no idea of their marshalling abilities/experiences is appropriate. Perhaps, if anyone, the organisers should be held accountable as they were the ones who ultimately employed and distributed the marshalling squads...

Sparklie, Liz, please don't take that personally, I'm just trying to add a new spin on the argument. Personally, I gotta admit I was well impressed by the event today, and I wasn't even playing. Best yet without a doubt.

Maybe it is time for tournaments to employ the services of a dedicated "Marshall Supplier", who can provide marshalls of varying degrees of ability (perhaps a grading structure), who have all been trained and approved up to their various levels. Something has to be done.

It's got to the stage where people don't tend to moan much about facilities, organisation, etc, etc. The only thing left to moan about really are the marshalls, so it needs to be addressed.

Feel free to attack me.
