I think you might be right and I willingly stand down from my perhaps overly defensive position :D

I actually just don't see the point. They have their official title and the name they choose to be known by. With regards to "They Think It's All Over" however that was the BBC's choice to run it as "The Manc Union" not ours. Popular press huh...what can you do? :D

"Hey, hey we're the macc lads, we like drinking beer!"

Can hear the team chant now "Sweaty Betty, she's got a big vagina, Sweaty Betty, could fit a bus inside her...."

etc etc...

The official line as in sport is that they are referred to by there full names, but as in any sport teams are widely known by thier nicnames. So if any team wants to be known as Mac Twisted or Just So Manc by their supporters.
If paintball gets wider exposure then local supporters will and people in the know will who is who.
Note if you go to Newcastle, Manchester or Leeds and mention the word United they will not all think you are talking about Manchester.

Ben me old cheese, you make a valid point but I suspect these guys are going to be aiming their promotion (and rivalry) specifically at the people of Manchester anyway...as I am sure most teams will do similar by targetting their home town with an image that the people of that town can relate too. I mean, just going back to football for a second and me not being from that part of the world is there a difference between Man City & Man Utd? :D See I'm confused already :)

Heck, Newcastle refer to themselves as "Pride o' the Toon" which means bugger all to anyone outside of the North East but that's all over their shirts and promo stuff...

...and does this means Twisted Macclesfield will become known as "The Macc Lads"?

I just kind of feel that a point is trying to be made where none really exists...
Hatts, sorry, yes I agree with you. As long as they are officially known as 'Manchester...' (which you have stated they are) there is not a problem. Therefore case closed in terms of the PA. No problem what so ever. :)

you've all convinced me, in reflection; for newcomers to any sport, nicknames take a little bit of detective work until you suss them out, but add a more 'in' and supporter feel when you have sussed them. Like the 'canaries' for Norwich City in footies etc and the pride of the toon example you noted for the PA.

Who's gonna write the press release that gets sent out to local media for Just SoManc..?

Erm... me !

So, i'll put....

"Just SoManc, representing South Manchester, today did extremely well in the first round of the Paintball Association League."

And I'm sure the Paintball Association League will make it clear when they do their press releases about which city or town each team represents.

Hatts.

Let me get one thing straight. I think the PA League is an awsome idea, there is no hidden agenda here, I have been playing for 2 years now and my mates still think I am Rambo.

I have seen the league listings and it says So Manc, all other teams including Macclesfield have used their town/city names in their team names. My understanding was that this was the cornerstone of the PA events. The reason for the whole idea of the PA League (and what an excellent idea). If the first ever league is allowed to be watered down by 2 teams in the top league, one of which will most likely win, then what will happen next year when everyone else wants a "cool" name.

The "They think it's all over" thing had not occured to me before but now when I think about it, what a fantastic opportunity "Missed". The BBC should have reported on the PA Association Champions "Manchester", not so manc which may have just as well been the "Sticky Clagnuts"

Don't get all defensive, stick to the principles of the PA League and what it stands for.

We are not football, rugby, cricket etc and so cannot be compared. Paintball is an obscure sport to the public like Marbles or snail racing and recognition is what is needed.
