Hi Sparklie

If she's not on your list of ladies that run sites, add Belinda Webb from Smart Parts. She co-runs the Paintball World site in Kent with Phil, in fact I think she originally got him into the sport many many years ago!

Sparklie.

Where do they run the courses?

We have just done ours as a site. You need to speak to the lovley Steve Bull chair man of the UKPSF, he can let you know when the next course is running they are few and far bettween so far. They involve a group of up to 20 and a dedicated day of taking all the ifo in. Once you have competed it you get a bage and or certifiate :D
They also run tourney level courses too these are two days and very intence and you need more experience before you take this on.
It would also help to read the site's code of practise all UKPSF sites will have one( about an inch thick A4 document) it tells you every thing! great to boor your self to sleep with mine took me two months in small sections so I took it all in, nether the less essential to have around if you need to refer to it.

Good luck you don't say weither you already marshal or were if you do.

The more repsonicebly we take paintball as most people first experience the better for the sport as a whole.

Liz we must meet up some time let me know yes I do know belinda she's lovley one of the first ladies I met.

There are a few ladies in paintball and I do make a point of introducing myself were ever possible it's good to know your not alone in the sea that is testosterone

See you in the middle some day if not by a tea urn is usually a good bet

No problem

I run a well organised safe and fun site this means all my staff being trained and knowing what they are doing, it does take time and effort but is ultimatly rewarding.

Have you also read the enola gaye pyro statement it is very comprehensive and covers every thing I would recomend you read that to as it is an offence to supply pyro to any one under 18. They are classed as explosives and are covered by the same regulations.

Jeeze - I never realised that! I marshall at my local rec-ball site and we have a marshall who is under (that) age, he's a pretty responsible lad, but all the same it's not worth compromising the site insurance for something like that!

The first time I ever played was in Virginia, in the States and I have to say I was very wary about the safety aspect of the sport - we only had one marshall (who looked about 15/16), marshalling all of our games, all day - and there was about 30 of us! Now, this may seem stupidly rediculous to you now (and myself too) but at the time I was new and didn't know much about the safety aspect. I can tell you now though that I'd never play at a site with less than two marshalls on the field at once! Not only for safety, but also watching for cheating, wiping and helping out the punters for crying out loud!! What are they supposed to do when 3 of the punters get their gun's frozen up at the same time!!

As for the welts - I get hit more times a day when I'm marshalling than when I'm actually playing!
All I can say is that if your really getting pelted where you marshall, then suggest to the field owner to invest in some riot shields! Now they make a difference!:D

PS. Sparklie - what's all that about the enola gaye pyro statement ? I'm not sure what your on about.

Enola gaye pyro statment

They are one of the main companys that supply the UK and are thoughly tested. To be supplied by them as a site you have to sign and fill in the terms and conditions. Any one purchasing their product takes on the responcilty for their use and their staffs traing in how they should be used. Enola Gay supply their pyro with a three page document covering the relevant lawsand how they should be used and what condition.

Officially They are Explosives!

They are not to be sold to under 18 or to be sold and then taken off site by your customers.

I really hate to say it but would any of you sell kids fire works? This is just as bad if not worse cause we are encoraged to throw them and normally in another person's direction.

Just think about this. I do it really worries me. If the mothers of england realized this happens paintball would be in real deep **** forget the whole gun shooting thing.

Kids pyro just don't do it. There have been acidents. Not on my site, The kid (13) was on a school trip. The site is lucky they are still running.

Yes to work on the feilds marshals must be 16 and should be supervised by at least 1 experieced marshal over 18 if you are not sure read "the code of practise" ask bully, do the course it really dose help and makes sence of every thing. You will be a better safer happier marshall.

Please tell me why you get so many welts? every one has some days when you just get caught in the middle but if you have properly breifed your group this should cut down staff getting shot tremendously. I did manage 6 whole months of marshalling every sater day and sunday with out getting shot and then took loads and got my radio mike shot through my neck:eek:

It has left a scar all be it a pretty mole but I know how it got there.

Yours is not the only site and it is difficult. Pledge could easliy pass for 18 is 6" and very sencible and has a great attitude but he is still 14 so 2 more years of potting up and helping out in the nutral zone. I am finding more intresting demanding jobs for him at least once he hits the feilds he will know every thing lol;)

Bye for now anything else drop me a line or better still talk to bully he's great.

Peace love and cookies sparklie

Hi Sparklie
Sorry it's taken me a while to post my reply - been too busy off playing:) :)
I keep meaning to mail you & come up to Maidenhead but my weekends have been sooo busy lately, hopefully I'll make it soon.
On the ladies in the sport subject, you should have seen what it was like 10 years ago! I knew of about 10 female tourney players in the whole of the UK, but yesterday there must have been about half a dozen playing just at Temple so the situation is getting better all the time. I think the attitude towards female players is much better these days which helps, no more comments like "if I was shot by a bird I wouldn't leave the field 'cause it wouldn't count", an exact quote from the "old days".
From working occasionally for Belinda & Phil I've noticed that mothers of junior players always seem much happier if they know there will be at least one female on site - yet another reason to get more of us involved.

Sytrax I would give up trying to be a marshal until you have been playing a bit longer. Sure it seems like a good idea to be paid to play the sport but you enjoy. But in truth not many sites allow the marshals to play, and as for lighting up a punter forget about it. Another downfall to do with being a site marshal is being hit really hurts. You think it hurts when you are playing but when you play you have huge amounts of adrenaline coursing around your body and thus the pain is not noticed as much. When you are playing as a marshal you have to stand right in the middle of the cross fire in order to see if either player is eliminated and if having balls flying past your head, whistling as they go, isn’t enough to scare you. You are also in the knowledge that you are going to get hit and it is going to hurt big style. Hell on Saturday I took a shot in the neck just below the adams apple, the damn thing nearly floored me and I’m still finding it hard to swallow now. If you do still want to be a marshal you should go down to your local site and find out as much as you can about the site and their marshals. A good knowledge of the sites game zones is essential as well, as a good marshal can predict where the main action is going to take place within the game.
Remember you might get knock backs by the site owners as they prefer to hire marshal with experience of marshaling or have been playing for long times. But sometimes they do hire people who have not been playing for long. Hell there is a marshal at my site who hadn’t even played paintball before he applied for the job let alone been a marshal. But with top-notch training he is now a competent marshal.
:D

My goodness - Contructive and non-harsh comments aimed at SYTRAXZ by Tortoise-Licker! Good Job! :D

He's right though - your best with some experience under your belt anyway becuase that way you can learn from other marshalls as you are playing anyway. Learn what they may do wrong or right and remember that so you can one day be a great marshall. There are a lot of bad marshalls out there and we don't need more crap ones - and I'm sure you obviously have no intention of being a crap marshall! But quick judgement calls and an extremely focussed attitude towards safety are required of marshalls at all times - these skills become second nature with experience. Good luck. :)
