It would appear that the biggest point of all has been missed!!!

X - Ball is the first step in making Paintball a true spectator sport.

At the moment a spectator can expect to see a game from grandstands etc........Great! This can take 10 mins or 30 seconds depending on who is playing who. So the crowd get to see the team they follow for a max of 10 mins every 1/2 hour to an hour.

This new format allows the spectator to get into the game. If one team loses points then there is always a chance of getting them back and winning the game, much like football or other team sports.

It has goto be a good thing if we are to continue inviting people to watch paintball.

It must also be a good thing for the players too.

It enables teams to learn. It builds more team spirit. It doesn't mean that if you make one mistake you could lose your team the entire game etc. etc. etc.

All in all I think that it could be a great addition to the game and after speaking to the guy who originally came up with and tried the concept, ( LEDZ ), I believe that players and spectators alike will enjoy the the new format.

Nick/Jeff the god of buscuits

Jeff... totally agree, this format alows greater involvment regardless of aggressive or defensive play, it takes more time to allow players to play as apposed to worry about being eliminated... this always has a down side (such as boring play) but at the same time why not give this a try? This format takes a giant step toweards the sstyle of play/game I would want to watch... so why not?... exactly! ;)

Nick... again yopu appear to be using current thoery and "common sense" to draw your conclusions... to say that a football (soccer) game would be more exciting if it was 10minsutes rather than 90 is an interesting point... in many way it would be... but at the same time applying your reasoning all goals would come in the last 10mins of the games... this just doesn't happen, again using your own example of taking advantage in the first quarter... if you wittle the opposition down and have a chance of scoring you aren't going to skip the chance of a point to wait untill the next quarter, you are going to get the point then try and keep the advantage in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th.... obviously the opposition wants other-wise, they want to turn the tables in-order to win... this is where I am comming from... yo8ur example seems to pivot on the premise that both teams will sit down and have a picnic for the first three quarters untills they decide to take the opposition in the 4th... again FALSE

While I will agree that the beginning of the game does not inspire aggresive play more that a long standard game... that fact that a team will get the advantage by the end of the first quarter a team will have the advantage... if this team does not capitalise on this then they are playing un-intelligently... they will never win.... this imbalance in its-self will then galvanise the opposition into playing more aggresively to gain the lead.

As with every sport, the team with the lead will oviously make it as difficult as possible for the other to take the advantage.. this is the nature of sports, but to say this in itself is detrimental is to ignore the opposition who wil go at it hammer and tongs in-order to pull it back. Yes we will get 0-0 draws (in a presumably leagure format) yes there will be games where sleep is a serious alternative, but all in all this format allows greater spectator involvement throught the format and (what we're arguing over) greater aggressive play!
