The problem thata lot of newbies have is meeting up with experienced players to find out what to do and what steps to take in growing within the world of paintball. the number of newbies on regular punter days must be pretty high(look at the number of sites and how many people get there on weekends) so the problem isn't numbers starting and having a go,its keeping them there.
i think the problem is communication and letting newbies know that there is a huge paintball world out there and how to get involved with it and where.
a lot of punter sites only cater for the weekend office party crowd and that only.so its hard for newbies to see what other aspects of paintball there is. i say this because i've been to sites like this and it's as if outside that site paintball doesn't exist(poss down to lack of knowledge of the organisers(no fingers being pointed))in any other form.it's only coz my friends and i went out brought PGI and ended up here that we know of the huge p8nt community and the fact that there are even tourneys played(sounds weird but before i just thought it was woodland stuff, supp air WOW!!!)but a lot of newbies don't do this.
we all know that a really cool thing to do is to get to a walk-on site and meet paintballers and chat to them.most are really happy to show a newbie around and chat(everyones been there) but its letting newbies know where these sites are and getting them there.address that situation and more people will come.
love it or hate it programs like mission paintball will help this and has generated interest in the sport. but its back to the problem of letting people know that if they enjoyed the program where to go to find out more.

Rancid - we mainly go down temple or Millenniums also use LPS at London Colney quite a lot. Next time you see our name on the team sheet, come and say hi dude :)

Oh, and I would be more suprised if Jiggy was agreeing with me rather than taking the piss. you know the respect most players give thier captain! :)

Sparklie - if you are making the effort to keep those first timer interested I commend you. where about exactly is the site? as we live so close I might hitch a lift sometime :)

LPS are also one of the few sites which offer the chance of first timers taking something further. Not least because they run a walk on so first timers have exposure like tb and Senior_d mention.

Mother, is that you?
Hey tb, you know what the answer is.... every first timer gets a copy of pgi.

If every site (in the world) took copies, they could hand em out.

You know what, this was tried a number of years ago and sites wouldn't take it cos they didn't want their punters realizing there were other sites to play - and possibly cheaper sites at that. Shortsighted? Well as far as the industry goes, but can you blame em?

Rancid so you are not talking to me then

well ok but like I said if you don't know the facts you can't make an informed comment. If you bothered to read my less light hearted posts ( who can or wants to be serious all the time) You would realize we are by the sounds of it very deffinatly not most sites.

Yes I would be the first to admit I babble but since I wrote my first article for the UKPSF I little me on her own has been changing things in my pond. Basicaly for the benift of all it was a whitty tounge in cheek piece regarding the futcher of paintball and it's growth. Just for the record written over a year ago. Since then I've been implimenting many of the things all of you mention. By thinking, asking every one and any one their opinions why do you think I spend so much time here and have been asking you the players what you want.

I could quote you a whole great list of things we do including having PGI and All major paintball shops boruchures on site just so people can see what it is all about.

If you think I have a bee in my bonnet about being a girl then try it some times, I have no problem with it. We get to wear skirts and the trousers:cool:

Beaker yes would be most cool would love to have a real good natter and soon. Site is Maidenhead 30 minuets me and the car and about 45 any one else and the van.

Drop me a line here, email ect we have some cool happenings planned for this year, sup air on the 20th of this month will be a whole lota fun. I think you would approve:cool: :)

I used to play at Tony's (forgot surname) paintball london - next to Mick Holdaway's place Nr Maidenhead. I presume that's not you ;)

i think you've hit the nail on the head there rancid. altough in PGI there is'nt too much info on sites anyway so punters will remain fairly loyal but it will introduce the masses to what p8ntball is about.and point them in the right directions.although i know PGI has to caiter for all abilities a newbie section wouldn't go a miss(but thats another topic)

i agree with beaker about LPS in london colney. very friendly site(like sparklies!) but if your a newbie and go to a walk on they'll dress you up marshall stylee so you can shadow a marshal and see what it's about during a proper game.a great way to introduce newbies.

Hey, I'll talk to anyone - that's what got me into trouble with the law.

Sites advertising in pgi - you're right, they must have caught on that they were preaching to the converted. Local advertising is much better for them.

Perhaps if a full copy of pgi couldn't be handed out - what about a pgi taster? 4pp flyer giving a glimpse - you know the kinda thing, faqs, 'what do I do next' etc etc. get Bully to stick his address on and plaster p8 all over the place. Hey, that might work.

Blimey, this has all ended up happily ever after. God bless us one and all.
