Ionman Review 25/5/08
The best day's paintballing at NSPA EVER! Oh! and the best night aswell!(I think?).
Hope everyone doesn't mind me indulging in a review of the day, it's certainly one for the NSPA Diary, so here goes............
Ten points why it was so good:
First the weather, a tad windy, but splendid sunshine, a good start. Second the field setup courtesy of Mr Neil (Captain Inflatable) Richmond, marvelous. Third the onsite catering, Mr Rawlins and Sam we all tip our high colesteral hat in your general direction. Fourth, the PA refs, for not only providing us with best quality Marshalling, but mighty fine after Tournament entertainment, your all Stars so I'm naming ya's, Mr Russell "The Man to see!", Mr Gilly or "Loco" from now on, Mr Gassy "paintball magnet", Mr Paul/Mr Pete"I ain't driving home, I may indulge in the available amenities". Fifth, the onsite Universal Trade Stand/Panic Room (will be there every week from now on). Sixth, the music and PA system in full working order, making for a great atmosphere and some bonny moves on show! Seventh, the photography and video footage, amazing, especially from the Telehandler, which will also now become the norm. Eighth, the teams, so friendly, fair, helpful and they made the atmosphere, couldn't be better, thank you all. Ninth, the quality of play, great to watch and superb seeing the new guys doing so well, a real buzz. Finally and most importantly to me, the liquid refreshment available from the Universal Bar, Cheers!
The results:
1st: Fusion I, 109pts (Sorry, but I don't have enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe this team on this day. Dropped 3 points, just 3 points all day and that was in there first game against Fusion II. Just an incredible performance and a pleasure to be around, very well done indeed!)
2nd: Newcastle Lockdown, 98pts (A change of name didn't change how they played, were fantastic and played with admirable sportsmanship. Played in the best game in my opinion against the Monks with a terrific 1 to 1 stand off as its finale. Cracking!)
3rd: Mad Monks, 79pts (No Mr Singer, but played as well as I've seen them. Some tough but fair calls went against them, but took it on the chin. From front to back a real class act!)
4th: Fusion II, 72pts (Massive improvement and scoring 72pts is no mean achievement. Definitely there best performance at NSPA. Only team to take points off Fusion I and had many good performances throughout the day.)
5th: Venom, 60pts (As is their norm, either played top draw or bottomed out! When they played well they played very well and ruled the field, but just were'nt consistant enough. Most of the team hadn't played Sup Air before, so they really should be comended. I'm sure they'll be fighting for a top 3 finish next month.)
6th: NSPA, 59pts (The worst start to a tournament I've witnessed, then just grew in confidence throughout the day. A great advert for the Academy, especially when beating Newcastle Lockdown (hope you don't mind me mentioning that lads?). A real pleasure to see the youngsters do so well and will improve no doubt at all.)
7th: Unified, 47pts (New to NSPA, Sup Air and for some members paintball in general!!! Some fantastic games and we're certainly not the whipping boys. Full of fun and hopefully they enjoyed their day as much as we did having them, cheers fella's.)
Massive thanks to all who made it happen, especially to Mr C for believing in NSPA!
So overall some outstanding performances, but most of all a great atmosphere, an extremely pleasurable day hopefully had by all and a splendidly amusing night (thanks to everyone who stopped back and indulged).
Roll on next month is all I can say, See you there,
