ive owned an ion and my mate still has his
this issue we had on his and it was a simple as a flat battery

wrt ions, i think they are good for the following points:

light weight
cheap to buy
fun to upgrade
fast with a nice trigger
easy to setup / program

however for all the pros i really felt a lot of the time that i was going to break it/take it out of my bag and find its not working
thats my major stigma against cheap gear is that i dont trust it to work, although personally i never had a problem with it, and it worked flawlessly

hope you get the problem sorted mate
first thing with any electro marker - CHECK THE BATTERY! :D

Scars, understood, mate. I think the Ion is a superbly designed and well-thought-out gat but I wouldn't wish SP's customer service/quality control on my worst enemy.

The lack of an LPR is a great idea. Why make it unnecessarily complicated? The more regs you put air through, the less consistent it can be, and the more things there are to go wrong. The Ion is essentially - when you trim it all down - a small metal bar inside an electro magnet that blocks off a hole. KISS at it's best. The Ion rocks - and though I understood the question marks about its logevity (ie; was it made out of cheese?) our team's used them all season with no probs whatsoever.

Don't get me wrong, though - it's fun to be cynical - I'm the same about Scary Movie 1, 2 & 3
The lack of an LPR means two things.

1 Your bolt is being moved by alot higher pressure than the same gun with an LPR, meaning the gun is harder on paint than it would be otherwise.

2 The pressure used to fire the ball is lower than the optimum pressure, meaning the gun is less efficient than it should be.

Two regs is MORE concistent, and much less likely to have a catastrophic failure due to overpressure.

Also when you take a gun down to its basic components, almost all of them are as simple as the ion, some are even simpler...

The Ion is, a nice tidy looking cheap (ish) marker, but I don't trust it to withstand the bashing I give my gats through diving and generally wear. Hence I got rid of mine. Much prefer my EGO which is in my opinion the simplist electro marker to maintain.
And if you do break it you have the back up of some of the best customer service in the business.

to be honest i think the ion will last as long as any other marker out there as long as you maintain it like you have to with any other marker.

yes i do wounder why some ions get out of the sp factory as they are missing bits and pieces but it all comes down to one point.

the ion for it price bracket is just superb. like someone told me, if you get a good one, ur well sorted. if u happen to get one thats fukd, it wont let you sleep at night.

just gotta get a good one.

So are you a fan in general of simple and elegant engineering John? ;) Or would you rather make things over-complicated and expensive?

My Ion's working pressure is 120 and though that's still not currently ultra-low in the big scheme of stuff, I think it's low enough.

My gat shoots about 1300 from a 68/45 and that's more than enough for me. It doesn't break paint, and has been very reliable (more than my mate's ego, as it goes) all season.

It works as performed, advertised and desired. Once again, I ask - not directed at John - why all the hate? (of the gun - which rocks - not of SP, who suck camel balls)

Scars, for about the billionth time - it is NOT made out plastic. I think you know that too! :)
