I always find the problem is getting enough time at the Chrono on the day before a walkon to sit down and tune the marker to its happiest.

Just waiting for my chrono to arrive then I'll be able to set it at home.

sorry i didnt mean to start an argy . the reason i wanted a baseline is for the same reasons as madcow, air/chrono. so i have a fallback fail safe if i become unhappy with my settings.
wow marcus 16 i might have to use 20 as a failsafe .
cheers skeet and all listed in this thread

Thats all good, but my ion with the blackheart was on something silly like 16 clicks from bottom. Very efficient and cycled luvvly jubbly.
Yeah, I had one setup at 10 beeps, worked fine, but...people who know more about Ion's than me, suggest 20-25 regardless..Olly for one.

The colder it gets, the Dwell needs to rise quite steeply.

Anyway, the more he fiddles, the better understanding of what works, he will get, so thats all good:D

I had a CP reg (for consistency), firebolt, QEV, lucky stages 2 & 3, and used a freak barrel kit to make sure my Ion was as efficient as it could be. Hence the low dwell. Don't try a dwell of 16 unless you are confident your Ion will cycle properly at max ROF with paint.

Oh, go early to chrono and tinker, or do it over lunch, or do as I did and attend the site when the site owner was in attendance doing maintenance and didn't mind you tinkering at the firing range.

Oh... and Ion flaming.... YAWN Boring... heard it all before. Ion's work as well as any marker on the field if treated properly. End of.

I wouldn't actually recommend investing in a CP reg for your Ion, as it has been proved, that the Ion reg is one of the best in existence...one bit they did get right from stock!
I agree with skeet the Ion reg is good, but I wouldnt say it is the best in existence. I managed +/- 3 over the chrono with my CP reg, but with my Ion reg it was always about +/- 10. Not a big difference but the £35 I paid for my CP reg meant I could chrono to the site maximum a bit tighter without fear of a hot gun, and it meant my paint strings were bunched a bit tighter.

It really depends if you want to spend the money just to get a little bit more out of your marker.

Oh, and 16 was my winter setting, 14 was my summer setting.

qft - been proven its got one of the highest flow rates out there, heck they are the same as the reg on the NXT and kelly's ran ion regs on their sft's a while back

i get +/-2fps with decent paint ;)
