Well thanks to everyone for all the suggestions, because this is now almost a year in the making I have almost tried every suggestion. Not quite as extreme as Goggers But thanks for the thought mate.

It has been fixed once but grew back nasty. So they are going to kill the nail bed.

But keep the suggestions coming in we find a cure

This is paintballrelated but only just, tom was a very decicated baller and I know he really misses the sport and we miss him too ps the radiator misses you. Yes due to the sandal he has been baneshed to the paint office, it's nice and warm in there. I can't even rember the last time you played now that is sad I was looking at last years xmas outing winter in the woods. Any way we miss you Tom and hope you get it sorted too. we do have that big 5 ton vice................. only kidding lots of cookies and hugs grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I think in your shoes or should that be sandal I would be going private.

Thank you very much Sparklie. It has to be said I am itching to do anything again and get out on the fields.

I went private to start with but they wanted to charge me £200 to get it done. At the time i thought thats too much i can go NHS but looking back I wish i had but now its a principal thing.

id go with goggers idea....i cut out an ingrowing toe nail myself in pritty much the same way only i used a scaple from an artist supply shop.
a friend told me how a doc had done his and rather than go to the doc i did it myself, mine healed a lot quicker than his and hasnt bothered me at all since....sure it hurt to put shoes on for a couple of days after but the relief was amazing!
soaking in hot water and salt is helpfull before and after as it will soften the skin and nail and kill any infection.

diy surgery heheh what will be next on here?!

just incase.....if you do this and it goes tits up dont send your solicitor this way! gogger thought of it first

I once had to stitch my own arm back on after it got torn of in a freak farming accident, stung a bit and I was off work for three days, but it's alright now. Never did find my watch though.

there maybe a slight smell burning hair
