Hello All,

I have just purchased a brand new delrin bolt for me marker but i was wondering which hammer to get, I have heard some people say get a stainless one but some people say get a brass one, i know that the brass hammer is lighter so that sort of makes sence in a benifical way but the stainless is heavier that sort of makes sence in the same way, if anyone can shed some light on the situation please do,

All the best

Zana

I myself have a Voodoo Bolt and SS hammer with Eclipse Valve (High pressure 170 input).

Are you running high or low pressure?, my setup was done by the guys @ Planet so I know that its right for my marker setup :)

Eerrrm!

  Dude i have no idea   i bought mine from smart parts and it would have come with the standard bits. i dont have a LPR so i guess its high presure.

I know that a heavier hammer increases velocity. With the increase in velocity you can lower your input pressure, aka GOOD but what is the difference between the stainless and brass

Actually brass hammers are heavier than SS. You want to find a happy medium of weight, between the hammer, bolt, ram and pull pin. If the internals are too light, you will get poor efficiency and performance problems. If too heavy, you will have a lot of kick. The usual quoted guideline is about 1200 grains, I've found between 1200 and 1300 works well. At 1100 grains I had to crank the dwell up so I got lousy efficiency; and the stock setup (at 1526) kicks way too much.

The Impulse FAQ should be most informative on this topic:

http://www.kamworld.net/paintball/ImpulseFAQ_Upgrades.html#U22

Find your parts in the list, and then pick a hammer that puts your total weight of internals in the right ballpark.

For instance, I have the following:

Strange Delrin Bolt = 463
NS Slickshot Ram = 259
SP Delrin Bolt Pin = 34
Evil SS Hammer = 518
TOTAL = 1274 grains

Quack, you hit that one right on.

I use the Evil Stainless steel hammer and get good results with a New Designs bolt, slick shot ram and titanium pull pin (plus Jack II LPR). You might also consider either the Evil Punch or the New Designs hammer assembly. These are entire replacement ram/hammer assemblies that you simply drop into your Imp after removing the stock assembly.

Cheers Ears

Nice one dudes.

I will check it out thanks for the advice.

Right at the mo im on 1177 if i get a brass hammer i will be 1671 which not good, so scrap that idea.

But what is better to be under 1200 or over 1300
Iwas thinking if i get a delrin bolt pin and a ss hammer then it will be over at 1386

so i decide between, over 1300 for more kick or under 1200 and deal with a higher imput presure,
but surely when your talking about such a small amount of weight it shouldnt matter to much either side of the scale

Countrary to (un)popular belief the 1200 grain rule is not set in stone.. It all vaires marker to marker and to a larger degree is a case of trail and error.
Too light however and you efficiency will be crap.

Zanna stick a ss hammer in it, try it and see, don't buy somthing for a problem that doesn't exist on your marker, use it see what you don't like about it and upgrade accordingly.

All a lot of pissing about if you ask me!

Damn right, it's a reasonable ballpark to aim at when you're buying bits, but don't know how they'll work together, but the kids who drill little holes in their bolt pins to reach EXACTLY 1200.. well, they just don't understand what they're doing. Also, I'm sure the "ideal" weight will vary if you have an LPR or an aftermarket valve.

I've found it better to be over 1200 rather than under, for the sake of efficiency. Kick's not a problem with my impy, but efficiency has been. Your Mileage May Vary.
