Im not sure if this has been mentioned. But what about combining 7man and X-Ball.

i have to admit i didnt join the paintball world when 7man was about, however playing an X-Ball event was just absolutely amazing. i like the idea of crowd shouting and everything, reminds me of having the crowed at a football game just makes you want to play better for the crowd which in turn makes your day better
No point, it gets confusing, and the simpler any transition the better .....

I think 7 man with spectator participation but no coaching. When you are on the field you can't hear what the crowd are shouting anyway.

Ive played 3,5,7 and Xball and for me it would be between xball and 7 man. Could the Fed do the 1 thing people havent done in the past and ask their customer? if people want 7man then be the people to bring it back.
Noooooooo, let the Fed do one thing at a time please, this is another matter completely ...... let's get our event series back on its feet first before we even think about some socialist call for change to our format.

Surely we should be concentrating our efforts into consolidating the format we have, making the most out of the format that has evolved over the years, seems a lot more sensible than re-inventing the same old problems again and again.

Sorry, Tom, but I have to disagree with you on that point.

I'm a Lawyer, and there is a lot of money to be made from re-inventing the same problems again and again.

Did someone mention "Jerry Braun"?

:)

I don't know if switching from 5 to 7 man or even 10 man, is going to improve the sport or encourage more people to play. But making it more FUN will.

Making the game more fun will require the vast majority of players to be honest with themselves about what and why they play, and require changes bigger than format itself. Until UK paintball works out that Sport Paintball is beyond the fiscal and ability reach of 98% of players the better the UK scene will be for it. X Ball is an elite, factory sponsored event only.

If 7 man is a step in this direction all well and good, but a dose of wake up and smell the coffee is also needed.

That, and a return to single paint sponsor events. In my opinion allowing novices access to trade paint is where UK paintball really went t*ts up. It cut a wedge between the sites and tournament, and led to every fat pie eating goober thinking he was going to be the next Skinny K; so "give me free bullets".

Xball is the best way for good team to don't be surprised by smaller one (or a LOT less)

Some years ago, people were happy to go to Millenium in div3 a play against Dynasty or similar and WON.
Nowaday, which div2 team will score 5 point against a CPL team ?
Not a lot ... :) Anyway you don't play against them anymore.

I always preferred 7-man, but I think the pro's should only play each other, centre court, in back to back games lasting half of Saturday and all of Sunday.
