The IR3, when it was first released, did NOT have an IR trigger. It was named the IR3 because of it's ability to transfer settings from a Palm or from marker to marker via it's IR port (the "3" was placed in the name, because the IR3 was the third generation of Angel to be released). The Mem4 and newer IR3's came equipped with an OptoSwitch optical triggering system in which the trigger breaks a beam of IR light to actuate the firing sequence. The Eblade uses the same system. So, the "IR" in the IR3 was NOT named for the optical trigger. So it basically uses the same system that this guy is describing, except that it uses a trigger to break the beam instead of your hand. So, good idea... just a couple years too late.
