I guess that paintball is fairly niche and low value (like it or not, it is) so everybody here has been lucky and not targetted by card scammers.
However, I stand by my evaluation that "lucky" does not equate to "safe" - if you absolutely do need to use PayPal, try to obtain as much information from your purchasers as possible, including things like their IP addresses, time of transactions, etc - subscribe (or obtain otherwise
) to a fraud alert scheme which will notify you daily of new cards that have been reported as fraudulent, cross reference all delivery addresses with locations reported by their IP addresses, and ultimately, remember that if in doubt, it's easy and free to perform a chargeback. Just call the customer if necessary and ask them to confirm both registered and delivery addresses. If the IP lookup doesn't match I would be VERY suspicious.
PayPal will NOT be on your side if a card turns out to be used fraudulently, and if you've shipped the goods, that's the last you'll see of them. This is not a "my mate told me this happened once" story... it really happens...
