Why is it this has never happened to me in 10 + years of traveling? Why is always everyone else? Am I that lucky I dont think so. Do I just explain what I have got in my bag in an adult way and IF they ask to see it show them how it all works?

But what would I know?

Andy. I'm not trying to call you a liar, or disagree with anything you say. It may be a chance in a million that the airline would have a problem with only removing the burst discs, but would you be prepared to replace my/our air systems F.O.C. & deliver them to whichever country we're in at the time, just in case they're not allowed on the plane? If yes, then I'll leave my other air system intact & take that instead.

My god your scaring the hell out of me. If you broke 2 strap wrenches and 1 chain wrench then please stop. Listen to Piper as he's looking out for your safety. You more than likely will snap the reg off if you continue. As it is now, after reading this thread, I would get inspected just to make sure you didn't do any damage.

i never trust andy - he lies :)

I never bother to take the regs off. Just leave the asa on open.

You hear all these scare stories about how people have had their bottle drilled and yet ive never come across someone who's actually had it done to them.

Just take the rupture disc out........... it's simple really. It has worked for me for 10 years!
I read that as

"I am so glad PMI invested in a machine to put the regs on and therefore make people have to buy an entire new air system when the test runs out"

A lot of people, ant afford to fork out £100+ quid every time the bottle test runs out. Fair enough, it's for safety, but I think if air system manufacturers are going to put the regs on so that they're virtually impossible to remove, they should also offer a free service to remove the reg once the bottle is out of test.

There must be some counter-argument to what I'm about to say - in fact, I'll see if I can think of one myself, but one of the guys on our team wants to change the reg on his PMI bottle for sponsorship reasons.

I understand the PMI point about not wanting monkeys to arse about with time bombs, but when the bottle does need testing, I understand there's a chance the threads may be fouled from the loctite anyway?

So, it seems to be in addition to the airline argument, there may still be other reasons people wish to remove the reg?

Counter-argument: Don't remove reg from bottle A, just buy another bottle B

Counter-argument cont: Why should I have to? Other 'dangerous/please don't fiddle' fittings aren't loctited in

Counter-argument cont: If you don't like it, go buy another brand of bottle - market forces, etc

And so on and so forth...

Quick lesson,

When you take the reg out of the bottle the threads lose some of there tollernce, do this over a period of time and the thread will lose grip, so the reg becomes less stable in the bottle.

Re test on all PMI tanks is 5 years, and seeing as I started PMI Europe I doubt any are due for test yet (PYE Stamp and all that).

Sponsorship argument sell the reg and tank together and buy a new one from your sponsor.

At the end of the day it is your safety. We (PMI) are only looking out for your safety.
