You've got to finish the move. If you don't let the refs do their job, your not being fair to yourself.

Similar scenario...you get mugged from the backside. You feel one hit on your back, but only one. The mugger keeps going down field. Do you:

a) Call for a paintcheck.

b) Spin on the offending individual.

c) Both a and b, fufilling your responsibility to call for a check if there is the possibility of an unobvious hit.

Manning basically has nailed this one, I have to say that I know of no player on the tournament scene who would be so damn stupid as to stop mid-run and check himself.
That little manoeuvre is gonna get your ass ripped apart like confetti.
Whilst there is doubt, and there is in this case, you have to finish the run, bunker the guy and from hereon in, lies the difference between a fair player and a hardened tournament player..
A fair player (and these are about as common as rocking horse ****) would, check himself, if he was found to be hit, would then remove himself from the game, informing the judge of the correct chain of events and also informing the judge, that the bunkered player should be re-instated.
My brother John, used to take this action on many occasions, dumbfounding a lot of the pros we used to play against at the time, but hey, he was just a fair player !!

Now we come to the hardened tournament player, and whether they are pro or novice, there is no difference from what I have seen.
They would finish the run, bunker the guy and let the judge sort it out, but there is a also a sub-class to this category and it is that type player who not only finishes the run, he bunkers the guy and slides into the bunker on the leg that was hit thus removing the mark.
I would say, in my experience, this would account for about a
third with the others electing for the judges to sort it out.

A sorry indictment of our game or is it just an acknowledgement of people's general behaviour ?
I think the latter so not too much to get all bent out of shape over.

Please bear in mind that I am the bloke who called himself out for shooting himself in the f00king knee in the middle of a semi-final game, with no spectators OR judges around, and got up and walked off the field. My philosophy on cheating is don't do it! If you get shot, you've obviously done something wrong. Get over it, and don't do it again!! However, this mugging thing, I'm sure about the whole view on cheating where this occurs.....

In answer to your question, Manning, I would most definitely finish the move (and it has happened a few times now). On one particular occasion I promptly got shot to sh$t as soon as I did the guy by the rest of his team. Nice mug off the break though...

...the reason I brought this up was an argument that I witnessed by the mugger and the muggee (?!) after just such a move, where the mugger received a hit to his thigh, but was so close to completeing this game-opening mug that he obviously thought he should complete it, but there was no judge anywhere near to actually see the hit take place. They were both pulled out.

Obviously the muggee was a bit miffed by this and kicked up a stink about it, pointing out to the mugger that he should have at least checked himself as soon as he felt the hit.

Admittedly this is by no-means a rare occurence. In fact, most of us here must have been witness to a similair event on at least one occasion, and perhaps even been part of it. Is it something that both sides of the play should just accept and get on with it, and let the judges sort it out? Should judges perhaps be trained a little more towards this, and actually learn to "read" the game a bit more? I must admit I have played fields where the judges always seem to be in the right place at the right time. Maybe it just comes with experience....

Yeah, but I'm sure you realise what a pain in the arse it is, and how awkward it is to be running at full pace down the field, with all of your equipment in one hand (maybe both), your mask on, and battle back - and to then try and turn your head down to your thigh, or the back of it even.

You'll have a heck of a lot of momentum running down that field and and then with twisting your neck around and leaning back to see your thigh, I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up slipping, falling head over heels, flat on your back, and lit up like my house on x-mas eve!!

Doing something like that would completely interfere with your concentration process and probably screw up your fabuloso bunkering move anyway. You would just lose your rhythem.

I say complete the move, and then check yourself. There should have been at least one ref following a player bombing it down the field anyway and if they call you out for a hit, so be it - fair do's cos you know you felt something anyway. If you've managed to complete the move in such a way that you didn't wipe the hit area and there ain't no hit when your done then great. - But I would finish the move and leave it up to the ref's.

(If there was a stonking great big mark on my thigh when checking after the move, I'd obviously call it out though)

to put it another way.

If I was about to get mugged, and I shot the player on the way in on anything other than his mask or possibly gun/hand then I would expect the guy would complete the mug.

However, I would definately expect the marshalls to pull him and wipe me down. If they called it a mutual elimination I would argue it just to the point I would be getting 1-4-1'd.

I also agree with Manning's comment is it depends on if that's you one and only hit. With the prevalence of baggy playing trousers, it's entirely likely the thing will bounce. But if I've been zonned the whole way in and felt a few hits then I might think twice of actualy doing the mug.

Having trouble walking and chewing gum AJ? LOL:D I know it is a pain in the ass but you can just briefly glance as you continue your move! But you know to each his own. I would probably finish out and have before. Almost took a playing on penalty but honestly didn't know I was hit.
