BTW if you're referring to the old original Mayhem Masters at Holmbush, that was the late May bank holiday not the August one, something to do with the play on words of MAYhem. :D

I should imagine they are still busy overseeing the clear-up, but I'm sure Andy or Niall will post some details when they are able.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. :)

When you do paintball photos, getting some love is part of the deal to getting those dramatic shots.

When the two nearest people to me where photographers, the next nearest was a marshall stood 5 yds away and the nearest player was in the centre of the 30. I got hit more that game than the whole of the rest of the weekend.
I ought to delete all their pictures, just for spite. :D :p

Finally able to respond to the comments and queries. Thankyou for both the praise and the constructive criticism, we listen and learn.

Firstly it seems that most complaints relate to 1/ Food 2/ Layout and general venue stuff .

The catering company were contracted to the NEC and despite all our complaints about pricing and facilities the NEC could do nothing other than revoke the cateterers contract for future events. For my part I thought they took the piss as much as the rest of you and I hope you all took sandwiches! Humble apologies for this but we could do nothing.

Layout. In the dry the walk through the trade area seemed like a good thing to do. The traders like foot traffic and if it was not for them their wouldn't be an event, but the cascading water did make a huge difference! Noted.

This anti french stuff stinks. Sort it out. Friendly banter face to face is one thing the racial stereotypes on here is another.

The weather sucked on saturday. Fact.

Yes it was a car park, but holding an event at the NEC anywhere, will open even more doors for us. The NEC have already offered us a another venue, but we have not decided yet where we will be next year. The first time in any new venue is tough and you wish you had hindsight before you start, but you don't. You get things right and get things wrong and learn from your mistakes. Birmingham City Council were impressed with Paintball Players generally and the NEC like dealing with us on a organisational level.

To answer Sandown. They had just short of 5000 non players park over the weekend. This does not include train travellers. Considering the amount of PR work we put in...loads, and taking in account of the weather- crap, this is about right.

Finally, As no one else has said so, a massive thanks to everyone who made it happen, particularly those who worked all though the night on wednesday.

The one major thing you didn't cover in your post seems to be lack of signposting. All that advertising in Birmingham etc is wasted if you fail to signpost the roads leading to the venue.
I drove all the way around the NEC on Thursday to find the entrance and it is not a small site.
All in all it was an excellent event and something to build on
The security was streets above what was provided the last 2 years
Fields superb although not sure about the field numbering

Very little gripes
What happened to the CC promo gear this year
What happened to the printed material, seemed to be issues

Big up, the CCCrew, forward to Birmingham 2006

Signs. Hmmm where do I start. We have always taken care of the directions signs usually with the AA. The NEC gave us the impression that it was part of the package, so this year we left it to them.

Unfortunately it was overlooked. Every sign on a public highway required the nod from the local authority, or otherwise they will remove them and charge you. We had no time to go the official route hence the knocked up signs we put up. We put up a dozen, I think there were 4 left by the end of the tournament. It was not planned.

As for the promo gear the over runs went at the event. (Jamie Brandon took most so he could have his pic on his bedroom wall) I'll have a word with the council to see if we can get the other stuff and if they still have it I'll give it to Wendy for the Masters fundraiser.

Field numbering, well it seemed logical to Scutty. ;)

Something that I am curious about. Should ID's be checked prior to each game or is it random testing. With players paying approx £20 for an ID card and then finding only a single field was bothering to check them and we had a single game on this field. I have to question how the price of these cards are justified if they are not checked more than 1 in 8 games...

I thought security was good.

I got checked afew times when I went past the ID checker by the player area 'tunnel' over the weekend. I was wearing a high-viz vest so soon got to know him.

I got checked on to fields 3, 4, and 5 Friday and Saturday. All checked through the goggles for "likeness".

On Sunday I saw that the marshalls did ask before one game for players to lift their goggles and were checked against their ID.

Now can I have a full press pass :D

Cheers
