I am pretty lucky, or is it unlucky, in, I get to hear about a lot of things that go down in Paintball.
Most of it is pretty harmless and just highlights people's pettiness but on occasion something happens that shows just how low some people are prepared to go to satisfy their own agendas.
Now, for the most part, everything like this, that I find out about, is gonna end up on the pages of this board because, when you guys get to hear about it, then something has gotta be done to right the situation or all hell breaks loose.
The 'No Look' dead box rule is a case in question !!!
So here goes :-
During the Amsterdam tournament, some parties demanded that the Russian Legion did not film their games.
Here is their reasoning for them demanding such a thing, they believe the Russians are not only filming the games but also relaying messages to players on the field as they film.
This would obviously involve the players having receivers on themselves and the camera having a transmitter.

This mind numbingly ludicrous idea came about when one of the Millennium promoters demanded a search to be done of all the Russians in the Portugal Millennium 2001 tourney during one of the games.
I was on the field at that time taking pictures for PGI and was one of the guys who went up to Sergei, captain of the RL and asked if we could search him and his team.
The search was done by myself and the judges on the field.
We found nothing, absolutely nothing, and we looked in their ears, had them take their tops off and inspected their goggles.
When I went back to this particular promoter to report our findings, his response was even more ludicrous, he asserted they had to have their receivers surgically implanted !!!!!!
I swear, this is what he said to me and he was serious !!!!!!!!
This humiliating experience for the Russians was part of an ongoing series of events that have dogged them and it's hardly surprising when one of the Millennium promoters holds such ridiculous ideas.
Now before I go any further, I just want to put into context the use the Russians make of filming their games.
They film every game they play in, they go back and analyse the film.
Before they do this, each player, at the end of the tournament has been asked, how many they eliminated and how, how many times they were eliminated themselves and how, this is then reconciled with the video.
This feedback loop of filming and analysis helps them to improve their understanding of games, the way they play and so on.
As one of the coach films, he overlays a commentary, so adding an important real time analysis to proceedings.

All that said, some people believe the coach, while he films, is actually talking to the players on the field..... !!!

In Amsterdam, the Russians humiliation by some well-known people was extended, they were told, 'yes' told, to stop filming some of the finals games.

Now who the f#ck has the authority?
Who the f#ck has one bit of evidence ?
I tell you who, f#king nobody, that's who !!!

Just because some well known voices echo the rantings of a nut-ball promoter, the RL were forced to stop filming their own games.
Now if one grey cell had fired in the brains of the people who made the RL give up their filming rights, they would have realised, that if the filming of the games was just a diversionary tactic to enable transmissions to players on the field, then this could sooo easily be achieved by somebody, anybody watching the game, whispering into a microphone.
No frikkin need for a camera at all.

But no, our friends in the Millennium buckled to pressure from some names and the sacrificial lambs in this case, were the Russians.
This is a disgrace, we should not be treating Europe's finest ever team in this way just because we are too weak to embrace common sense and say 'shut the f#ck up' to a promoter and some self-interested pros.
If this keeps happenin, we (Euros) are going to lose one the finest paintball resources we have ever had.
The RL don't cheat, either on the field or off of it, period, no argument !!!!!!
If they did in any way, I wouldn't leave myself open to the comebacks, believe me, and the pages of this board would be festooned with 'Hey Robbo, I saw them do this at so and so....' but there ain't been any of that because.... there ain't been any of that !!!
And what makes me wanna vomit, the players and personalities getting involved in all this are the same people who if you went to watch their teams, will cheat like f#ck, at the drop of a hat..now there's irony for you !!!!!
And here’s another dollop of irony for you, the Russians have for a long time been filming their games but it was only when they started to beat the asses of the very same teams who are now doing all the mud slinging that they decided to come out with all this ****…coincidence or just plain bad losers ?

I always knew K2 weren't to be trusted...

They beat GZ and then think they can throw their weight around and demand call-girls, cocaine and tha Legion to turn their tapes off.

Tha K2 backlash starts here - ban em from Paintball, no, from life itself.

;)

What, you mean it wasn't K2?

Seriously, IMHO if I didn't want tha RL to film their game against my team for whatever reason, I would go and ask Sergei politely not to tape it. If he didn't acquiesce then I'd just play tha game - hell, time to start getting used to cameras if we wanna break big.

This all ties in quite nicely with tha Amsterdam thread over at tournament...

Stupid, petty and downright rude.

Considering the number of teams who do film games and the ONLY one that it's an issue with this is a joke.

The RL win games because they are better, nothing more or less, they are just better than the opposition.

.....does this mean I wont be able to film our Xball games then

Jesus....
Talk about bad losers.

I watched a good number of games by the Russians in Amsterdam, and it's sooooooo easy to see that they don't use any high tech bull**** communications. Like any other team they shout information to eachother.
And this X-files story about surgical implants.... puh-leeze! Okay, paintball keeps growing, but as a business it ain't nowhere big enough to even justify the cocts of such implants. And besides that, IT'S JUST SO F*CKING RIDICULOUS THAT WHOEVER CAME UP WITH SUCH NONSENSE SHOULD BE CARRIED OFF TO THE PADDED ROOM!
Does this guy live in his own world so much that he doesn't see how much credibility he lost just be implying it in the first place?

Bah!

Anyway. We got (some) Legion final games on tape. I'd be more than happy to get a copy made for them.

Yes you will be allowed to film. Unless you start winning games ofcourse. Then a certain garlic loving individual will pull all sorts of strings to stop you from using your bionic camera implant, and will have the telepathic people in the audience removed.:D

Ha All wrong, The Russians must be cheating but not through cameras.....OH NO!!!

They have trained small wood lice to run the length of the field gather information on positions and paint consumption also what they had for breakfast and what scool they went to when tey were 9. Its all releveant and in my mind we should be banning them for such blatent disragard for the rules!!!!:D ;) :D

Implants, please at least my story is plausible:D

Some people are bad losers and just cause RL can now rip up the field just as well as some US teams they must be cheating.

I say you don't like losing then start filming your games and wonder how you can do some seroius work on playing and not cheating!!!

Ohh just like RL

help! im lost!
rl

i ve huge respect with russian leigion. not only because they dont cheat, but they also win without cheating! this team deserve all the credit they get. but if one promoter cant handle a european team being one of the best well he should grow up and stop acting like a 3 year old. i think tom toms explanation is more plausable than the promoters.
long live european paintball

so what are they going to do at toulouse - film all the games except the finals (the RL will be going to them) :D

many teams film their games. if the opposition don't mind then who cares. if teams who played the RL wanted to see how they did the RL would not say no about copying the tapes.

when will people learn that the RL is one of the tops teams in the world and they will soon be winning everything. when the americans were winning everything we were not saying that they were communicating with radios, telapathy, woodlice whatever.
i think that some people are prejudice against the RL, they are from a country that used to be enemy to the europeans and americans. the cold war is over, the russians have built themselves up and are now 1point away from becoming the worlds greatest team.
long live the russian legion and i hope you kick the yanks, french, german, even english asses on your way to ultimate superiority.

Fecking hell....

... and I thought I was bad, hacking into and tasking KH-111 'Keyhole' military satellites to give me real-time "top-down" footage of games, which I then use to cor-ordinate play via a microwave transmitter to the rest of the team... all in the back of my Ford Galaxy too!

I'd better stop 'for I get caught!

you wouldnt belive the number of people with video camera's filming matches at tourny's these days! does this mean when the campaign and other such dvd's were going on there was some major communication.
plus with 12 individuals even more sometimes filming games for personal use! does this mean rl have employed everyone to communicate with them? :D i dont think so! there really would be on field confusion if that was the case!

surely if this guy has a problem would it not be better to ask them to stop the commentary? that way all that is being done is filming and no possible communication?
