I am pretty lucky, or is it unlucky, in, I get to hear about a lot of things that go down in Paintball.
Most of it is pretty harmless and just highlights people's pettiness but on occasion something happens that shows just how low some people are prepared to go to satisfy their own agendas.
Now, for the most part, everything like this, that I find out about, is gonna end up on the pages of this board because, when you guys get to hear about it, then something has gotta be done to right the situation or all hell breaks loose.
The 'No Look' dead box rule is a case in question !!!
So here goes :-
During the Amsterdam tournament, some parties demanded that the Russian Legion did not film their games.
Here is their reasoning for them demanding such a thing, they believe the Russians are not only filming the games but also relaying messages to players on the field as they film.
This would obviously involve the players having receivers on themselves and the camera having a transmitter.
This mind numbingly ludicrous idea came about when one of the Millennium promoters demanded a search to be done of all the Russians in the Portugal Millennium 2001 tourney during one of the games.
I was on the field at that time taking pictures for PGI and was one of the guys who went up to Sergei, captain of the RL and asked if we could search him and his team.
The search was done by myself and the judges on the field.
We found nothing, absolutely nothing, and we looked in their ears, had them take their tops off and inspected their goggles.
When I went back to this particular promoter to report our findings, his response was even more ludicrous, he asserted they had to have their receivers surgically implanted !!!!!!
I swear, this is what he said to me and he was serious !!!!!!!!
This humiliating experience for the Russians was part of an ongoing series of events that have dogged them and it's hardly surprising when one of the Millennium promoters holds such ridiculous ideas.
Now before I go any further, I just want to put into context the use the Russians make of filming their games.
They film every game they play in, they go back and analyse the film.
Before they do this, each player, at the end of the tournament has been asked, how many they eliminated and how, how many times they were eliminated themselves and how, this is then reconciled with the video.
This feedback loop of filming and analysis helps them to improve their understanding of games, the way they play and so on.
As one of the coach films, he overlays a commentary, so adding an important real time analysis to proceedings.
All that said, some people believe the coach, while he films, is actually talking to the players on the field..... !!!
In Amsterdam, the Russians humiliation by some well-known people was extended, they were told, 'yes' told, to stop filming some of the finals games.
Now who the f#ck has the authority?
Who the f#ck has one bit of evidence ?
I tell you who, f#king nobody, that's who !!!
Just because some well known voices echo the rantings of a nut-ball promoter, the RL were forced to stop filming their own games.
Now if one grey cell had fired in the brains of the people who made the RL give up their filming rights, they would have realised, that if the filming of the games was just a diversionary tactic to enable transmissions to players on the field, then this could sooo easily be achieved by somebody, anybody watching the game, whispering into a microphone.
No frikkin need for a camera at all.
But no, our friends in the Millennium buckled to pressure from some names and the sacrificial lambs in this case, were the Russians.
This is a disgrace, we should not be treating Europe's finest ever team in this way just because we are too weak to embrace common sense and say 'shut the f#ck up' to a promoter and some self-interested pros.
If this keeps happenin, we (Euros) are going to lose one the finest paintball resources we have ever had.
The RL don't cheat, either on the field or off of it, period, no argument !!!!!!
If they did in any way, I wouldn't leave myself open to the comebacks, believe me, and the pages of this board would be festooned with 'Hey Robbo, I saw them do this at so and so....' but there ain't been any of that because.... there ain't been any of that !!!
And what makes me wanna vomit, the players and personalities getting involved in all this are the same people who if you went to watch their teams, will cheat like f#ck, at the drop of a hat..now there's irony for you !!!!!
And here’s another dollop of irony for you, the Russians have for a long time been filming their games but it was only when they started to beat the asses of the very same teams who are now doing all the mud slinging that they decided to come out with all this ****…coincidence or just plain bad losers ?
Robbo
