If you look at most of the big paintball shops on the net (Planet, Smartparts etc) there is no warning about mis-use or even that it is illegal to buy one under the age of 17. Maybe it should be mandatory for anyone selling paintball equipment to display this.

I know its not much of a deterrant, but it may stop parents from buying them for Little Jonny who just wants to muck around in the woods with his mates. Or shop owners from selling them to school kids.

I was in one of those "sell knives and guns and swords" shops in Manchester last year and they had one of those argos stylee paintball toys

We were chatting with the guy that came up about the reports of a kid losing his eye with one and frankly the tosser was delighted.

Even made a comment about it would increase sales because of the publicity!!!!

I wouldn't worry about the responsible paintball shops you mention, worry about tossers like this. Every time I've seen Planet sell a gun there's a disclaimer to sign, I bet my ass these shos don't even know what a disclaimer is!

"replica uzi, rambo, (style), knife, blank firing pistol and that paintball gun, certainly son...no don't worry we sell to anyone, no you don't have to sign anything, just hand over the cash there's a good chap!"

Jerks!

This is disgusting it is far to easy for idiots to get hold of paintball markers, I personally think there should be licences for them. If you think about the damage these things can do it's surprising there isn't legislation already in place.

I know we are all really into paintball but I don't see the good people of downing street at the local site on the weekend, banning this would be pretty easy.

I don't thinks it's over the top to kick the sh!t of the people doing this they had better hope the police get them first and not a paintballer.

simple:

under UK law paintball guns are classed as AIR RIFLES. to sell these you need a liscense. supposedly.

most people don't realise this either because they don't know or don't care. as far as they know they fire little bits of paint and leave little splodges, not empty eye sockets.

the sale of these need to be restricted to a list of these types of shop:

1. dedicated paintball shops
2. gun stores (gunsmith's)
3. sports shops

this should limit the number of aldi style paintball guns around.

And as for: "The woman sold him the equipment and never asked were he was going to use it and whether he new how to use it."

Er, what about all the internet sites? Think they ask?
As I said earlier, this was in the UK...... I don't know the situation in the US and I'm aware that "back yard paintball" is possible over there, it's not really over here (unless you own a fair chunk of land), in the UK to legitimately use a marker you don't have many options...... it's basically on site..... so my point again, in the UK what's the point of a £40 plastic pump marker? have any site owners had punters bring them along and say "no thanks, keep the semi-auto with vl200 I'll use my action man mini-marker with 60 round hopper and 20 shot C02 powerlet"

Open question...... "Please give one legitimate reason for buying a £40 plastic marker from a "sporting goods" shop in the UK"
Anyone?

Thing is though, we are assuming it was a cheap plakky marker.
It couls also have been a half decent one too. How many of us keep all their kit under lock and key? think of the possibility of a baller's sibling deciding it would be fun to "borrow" the marker for an afternoons fun. Because many people see markers as "toys" they will treat them as such. Even in the right hands they can be very dangerous.

K guys we have to act first. If we wish to keep our balls as well as our markers (not guns) we have to inform planet and smart parts and other companies to have a 17 lable. When i bought my spyder from the US it had written on it cannot be purchashed by anyone under the age of 18. Which is how it should be. Paintball markers should only be sold by paintball outlets, not people who think they can get away with selling plastic pee shooters for a little cash. A petition should be made to the goverment that paintball MARKERS should be made available by paintball outlets and not sold to people less than the age of 17.

I start with my name:

Darren who's over 17 by the way..

Maybe also if we act first the goverment will find it a shock that we actually agree for once, and maybe they will let us announce it as an official sport.
