My old uni now has a club... get in touch with them via:

www.surhul.org.uk

click on Clubsoc

then sports

then look under recreational sports for the link to their website.

I have no allegiance to them whatsoever... I didn't set it up whilst i was there. I was too busy drinking.

They might be able to help, although team leopard from portsmouth uni could well prove more helpful as they actually have a tourney team!

I think i might be able to help......

If you want somebody to talk to then i highly recommend FLASH. Look up his email on the user list and get in touch. the guy was instrumental in setting up and running Portmouth Uni's paintball team and club and has absolutely **** loads of experience in the political side of the sport! He won't mind me recommending him, so make sure you het in touch. Otherwise speak to the head of the UKPSF Steve Bull, who i have no doubt will be more than willing to help you out, he's just about as friendly as they come!

Hope that helps!:)

They argued with me till i was blue in the face
Paintball is not considerd a sport under university guidelines
I told them about other univeristys playing the sport but they told me it was a society ( means MUCH less of a grant)
you can get a society for golf ball collecting so it kind of upset me a bit.
People do not realise how much effort is put into modern day paintball

God save us from Student Politics! Madness!!

Ask them to furnish you a set of guidelines as to what defines a "sport" in their view. E-mail it to some of the people that have been suggested already, or post a link to it on the forum here, and I'll bet that in a few hours you'll have a pretty watertight definition of paintball as a sport. Plus it's going to give people here endless satisfaction in picking holes in their reasoning :D

Certainly if you push the tourney angle as Tony says, then it's ludicrous to think of it as a "society", but then you'll probably need some sort of established Uni league and regular match fixtures (but hey! what better way to inprove UK tourney teams than regular, subsidised practice and competition?)

Don't let the b******s grind you down.

Just an Idea but why not get these people who say it isn't a sport down to a tourney. (OK so Campaign Cup is a bit far off but...)

Get them to chat with Stevie Bull (and he is the nicest man I have ever met.)

Beg borrow or steal *ahem* a copy of the Campaign Cup DVD and show them about the tourney scene. The SPORT of paintball.

Try and get people from the uni behind you. Get a petition from all the members of the Paintball team to sign it and use it as leverage on the SU governing body. Try and get help from the Portsmouth Uni team (try here )

Get in contact with your local site and ask them if they run tourneys and Sup'air as well.

If you can find a local company that might help with sponsorship of a local Uni team it might help the SU because they don't have to fund the whole thing.

Good Luck

Contrary to popular belief Team Leopard is not the University of Portsmouth Team. It used to be, but almost all of us have graduated now.

You can find the website for the Portsmouth Uni team on www.geocities.com/upsupball

It might be worth noting there used to be a Governing Body of Student Paintball called the UKUPF (I know I used to be the Chairman) It eventually folded but we did have about half-a-dozen member Universities at one time.

If you want any help dealing with Uni's and Paintball get in contact with me (email - jonathan.hayes@mapeley.com) I may have graduated in 1998 but I'm still involved in P'ball politics (I've been on the UKPSF Commitee a couple of years now).
