As for the superiority of American teams. I think the fact that US paintballers outnumber us better than 20-1 has more to do with that than anything else. Mere numerically superiority does not mean moral ascendency
What on earth does the derivation of spelling got to do with its correctness? "Television" is a combination of one Greek and one Latin word but that doesn't mean it's an inherently wrong word in and of itself

No it's short for "Petroleum Distillate" although most people don't know it even here as the proper phrase went out of usage about a century back
