Stands for Phase Alternating Line, uses 625 vertical line/50 hz as opposed to the National Television Standards Committee's (NTSC) 525 line/60 hz system. NTSC is the oldest television standard around and was adopted in America since 1954. PAL was developed later and implemented in the mid 60's and adopted by most European nations. PAL Xbox's have video output for the 625 line 50 hz PAL system, NTSC Xbox's have video output for the 525 line 60 hz NTSC system.

it's so cool i actually created a guy with most of the gear i have

it gets pretty hard on the indoor speedball zone it's like low lights, strobes and stage fog lol

Only draw back is you cant have multiplayer on one box big no-no in this day and age for console games. a part from that this game is cool the cocker's rock big time!!!!

Not scrictly true as either Xbox (PAL or NTSC) can output either screen standard. The Xbox automagically renders enough to cover both resolutions as well as HDTV (i think). PAL machines can output PAL resoulution at 60hz as well.

HDTV support is in the xbox but unfortunatly some games dont support it.

I spoke to thegame designers about the game and the formats as the NTSC format game was a lot cheaper to buy than the PAL version. They told me that if you have a European XBox then you need the PAL Version. Thus i ordered the PAL version.

Indeed it is an easy way of pricing products in different markets. Americans won't pay what we pay for DVDs' and games. We do so region locking and format compatibility is the easiest way of price fixing.

Most have workarounds like mod chips like people have said though. Playing import games and or import dvds is not rocket science. However Microsoft will not allow you to play Live with a modded system in most cases.

When they start using things like HL2 though and account authentication even those days may be numbered for gamers with modded machines, or 'backup' copies
