dont forget that goggles are the only thing between your eyes and a paintball doing 300fps....if you do buy 2nd hand i would recommend changing the lens for a new one as you dont know what has happened to it in the past...lens are supposed to be changed frequently to stop them becoming unfit for the purpose.....i personally would rather buy new than risk my eyes, plus 2nd hand goggle are going go come with a varying amount of 2nd hand sweat!
similarly with air systems, if you are thinking of a 3000psi or 4500psi air system, they can be VERY dangerous, i personally would never buy a 2nd hand one purely because i dont know its history, has it been dropped? has somone who isnt qualified serviced it?.......sometimes a bargain isnt as good as it looks.

put simply.....goggles, buy new or at least a new lens. air system, unless you are buying from someone you know and trust 100% id recommend a new one, an extra few quid is worth the peice of mind

Sorry if this covers old ground but the decision on the gun has to be on what he wants to play.
If he is going down to the local paintball site then the Tipman is fine as it is a mechincal gun and 99% of sites will allow this to be used against other people as long as you let them know your brining it.
If he buys a electronic marker (needs a battery) they generally only allow them to be used on walk on days(normally held ones a month) or Sup air tourneys
