ok same as whats been said, plus

you do want an air bottle, co2 will work fine on a macanical like a tippman but will still damage o-rings and if he upgrades marker at any time to an electonic marker he is better off with air.

the flat line barrel is good fun as it does increse your range but as the lining of the barrel is not smooth then stronger paint/lower firing pressure may be needed so you dont start shooting soup.

after that its all just a matter of buying what you want realy

finaly have fun!!

Goggles

Hi just my opinion obviously and i am sure the guys will slay me or back me up but for someone starting the sport and having not actually played it 45 sheets on some gogs is a big outlay.

I would suggest looking in the classified ads on the forums and pick up some 2nd hand ones - i know the Dye i3's (which i have used) are going for 15-25 sheets depending on age and condition, and they are great :)

I think also you other half owes you a huge hug and pressie and by the way paintballing is the dogs danglies !!!!

if he's never been paintballing before he should really go! get him to go more than a few times before his birthday, at least then he'll know if he wants the stuff. Even then what i said above was a guideline, but most people tend to ease themselves into the sport at first because it can get pretty expensive.

Welcome to the forum!

Yup, that's all very good gear. I have to agree with Ghostrocket here, if he's new to the sport it might be wiser to start off cheaper. A new steelie (aluminium) bottle is far cheaper than a new fibre-wrap, and if he's serious about the sport he can upgrade later and will appreciate the difference more. I bought my goggs off here 2nd hand and they're in great shape, but at the same time I'll reiterate the emphasis on the importance of a good mask so if in any doubt, go new with them.

To be fair we always end up regretting not getting the best things first, at the end of the day we have spent fortunes on our hobbies over the years and that is mainly because we went for the stuff that would do, not what we wanted and we only end up buying the stuff we really wanted within 6 months anyway lol so we may as well go for the best stuff first.

WHat's the max about you're willing to spend? You can get good googles for £40 or so off here, or the same ones brand new £60.

An Ion or PMR are good starter markers. Ions sell for £140 new, and PMRs about £150, and both sell from £80-£130 on here.

Hopper - anything force fed. :)

As people have said google are the most important thing. It's no good firing 15 ball per second if you can't see what your shooting at. Also they need to be comfortable.

Hopper you don't need it's an a5. The hopper on them has an intergrated feeding system.

The flat line give you a nice shoot but is hard on the paintballs. ( use tomahawk Classic or winter ) You will have no problems.

He would be best off finding a local site for a " walkon day ". This is where you can take your own kit and play. It's a shed load cheeper.

This is great place for honest advice, from people who play and own kit ( not someone who telling you it's great because they want you to buy it ). Oh and if you need any kit just contact LUMP.
