On the whole, the larger shops will only do lettering on their own shirts. Officially, this probably has something to do with liability for damaging the shirt (reasonable enough, polyester melts very easily, and the dye printing discolours with heat). Actually it's probably that they just want to shaft you for another £30 for one of their shirts. But I don't want to play in a Man U shirt
The place I got it done in the end, the guy behind the counter looked both ways to make sure there were no managers around, and probably pocket the £3 I gave him for it. Suits me, I got my shirt printed when most shops had turned it down, I don't really care who gets the cash for it.
