But using the G1, G2 etc is pretty common in the UK aswell as the states...
yup thats one ive heard used elsewhere too....as in 'dave POISON' ie dave your gonna get bunkered!

"G" stands for "Gone"...Gone 1, Gone 2, Etc....# of opposing players eliminated or gone.

And the other common call for the # of your teams players eliminated is "Burn"....So you'll call it...G2, Burn 1 for example.

"G" is for grid, have been using this "G" system for 8+ years, G1 is the left hand side of the field G5 is the right 3 middle etc.
